BMW E87 2006 1.6 oil leak from gasket?

Post by Tom999 » Thu May 24, 2018 10:17 am

Hi all I have my MOT coming up and

i’ve been told that I appear to have a leak oil leak from the gasket underneath the engine (petrol 1.6 L). (Went to get my oil changed at a local national tires Branch).

The leak is not massive but over a period of time has drained the oil to just above the minimum level over the past three months. Does anyone know what the cost of replacing the gasket underneath the engine would be. ( assuming the diagnosis is correct and leak is not coming from anywhere else the engine block seem to be stained by the leak so I think it’s a gasket

This would be done in conjunction with an oil change. Any help appreciated

Thanks

Tom

Which exact gasket? There are quite a few.

What does your chosen garage charge per hour?
Silver F21 M135i - ManBox - HK - Adaptive + Eibach Pro's - BBS CH-R's - BMWP Drexler LSD - TMC Piggyback - M4 LCA's - aFe Dry Filter

Hi
I’m informed it’s the rocker cover gasket

My garage is around 60 per hour
Thanks for any advice
Tom

Hi quick update I meant to say It’s the oil sump gasket as the leak is at the bottom of the car. There is no residue on the driveway (I presume this is because of the cover underneath the car).

I think this leak has been there for a long time as I knew the previous owner and they Have told me they regularly top up the oil.

I calculate that it loses around a litre of oil every 3 months

Assuming I keep it topped up above the minimum level would this be sustainable? Just trying to calculate what the fixing costs might be vs Continually topping up with oil on a three-month basis
Thanks
Tom
