I've just seen this guide. Previously, I'd managed to get the top clips out (as per the guide - pretty straightforward) but for the life of me couldn't get the bottom ones. Will have another look with the above idea of accessing from underneath via the gap on the left.

What I've noticed is the E87 is different to the E82/88 in number of clips and location/accessibility. most youtube videos are for E82...

EDIT: Just checked and there's no gap on the left on a 130i to speak of...

Did my F21 M135i 2013 at the weekend.

8 clips in all and TBH took about 15 mins......... the bumper does flex quite a bit so had a friend hold it out while I farted about.

Did my grilles last night on my E82. There were only 4 T30 screws holding the bumper on. They were tight to get off, sprayed a bit of WD40 and left it then they did come out with a bit of force. Replacing the grille itself after that was easy.

BUT - I only managed to get one of the T30 screws back in, the other 3 wouldn't catch/seat and would just turn and turn... Any ideas?

I like the look of the black surrounds and original internals. Is it easy to separate the surrounds from the lats in order to have the surrounds painted?

Black wrap is usually better than paint, it tends to stone-chip easily when applied over chrome.

Ok great - but the surrounds will clip off the centres?

I would expect them to, mine were 2 piece and clipped together.

Just fitted, my dealer quoted £200 supplied and fitted. Bought from another dealer supply only for £88 and 20 mins work. £112 saved Image

The thing I noticed tho was that I had to get my arm in to release the bottom and side clips on the LCI.

I'm just trying this too on my 130i LCI and I think I'm going to have to give up. Like the other guys with 130i cars said, there is no gap on the left to get your hand down. It looks quite different to the photo in the guide. Bit annoying as I've just paid £88 for new grills from Cotswold :( I wonder if they will take them back.

Pull the bumper more, its very flexible.

I did my E87 twice and just had to wedge my hand in and sacrifice a little bit of skin.

E82 is well easy, recently changed mine again for twin bar grills.

Success! I got someone with a bit more experience/confidence to come and give me a hand. To undo the lower outside clip, he managed to get his hand round the side from in front of the bumper, next to the headlights. It is quite tight, but do-able. So I can confirm it is do-able on an E81 130i LCI.

Pics for proof? Considering doing black on my black 130i.

What? You don't believe me? ;)

OK but I'm not sure if you're going to believe my photo because I was going from black to silver. I prefer the silver on the LE because it has silver trim around the windows down the side and I prefer the consistent look.

Anyway, my son was very pleased as he gets the old grilles for his car, which he says makes it a real BMW :)

Will probably put the black grilles on the for sale section soon, once he's bored with them ;)
