My 2006 E87 130i

Post by Davoaj » Wed Jan 11, 2017 10:13 pm

Picked up my E87 130i a month ago now, main reason for going for the 130i was that N52 engine and the little 1 series certainly hasn't disappointed.

Picked up a nice example in sapphire black with Alaska grey leather and factory xenons. Always been a fan of BMW grey interiors ever since getting in an E36 328i coupe when I was about 12 and I think the xenons are essential on the 1 series - really change the look of the car. Other than that, it's a totally standard car - although looking at the spec sheet I think it might have the upgraded BMW loudspeaker system, albeit with a business head unit. How can you tell?

Bought it with a little over 87k on the clock and have been getting to know the car over the last month. Been picking off a few detailing jobs in that time to get it up to my standards, will get some pictures up soon - I know a thread is worthless without them!

With Christmas now out of the way, it's going to into my local independent for a full service on Friday and getting the following:

Oil and all filters
Spark plugs
Gear box oil
Diff oil
Front and rear pads and fluid change
Plus a general inspection

Have also got 4 Uniroyal Rainsport 3's on order and being fitted Saturday, gone for 225/40s and 235/40s front and rear. Normally go for Goodyear EAF1's, but got a great deal on the Uniroyals from camskill and will be glad to see the back of the run flats.

In terms of mods, not got much planned - like to keep my cars standard or at the most OEM+, although this site doesn't help! Jack at Royal steering wheels is sorting me a wheel and a gear knob and I would like to replace the business head unit with a professional one.

As for the car itself, the N52 is every bit as good as it was in the 330i I had for over 4 years and I would say the car itself is more fun and feels quicker than the E90.

Been enjoying the forum and found it very helpful so far, will no doubt have some more questions to ask on this thread.

Cheers

A 3 week old and a 1 1/2 year old make it a bit hard to find the time to take a decent picture ha ha!!

Will get some on soon.

Car was in for its service today, pleased to report it got a clean bill of health having asked the garage to give it a good inspection as well. Turns out it didn't need pads either, only about 50% worn all round.

Tyres were delivered this afternoon and are going on first thing tomorrow.

Just need to remove the armrest and courier to Royal Steering Wheels this weekend.

Now to enjoy it and keep an eye on here/eBay for a few bits like the professional head unit and the LCI climate controls.

As for pictures, weather has been against me this week - but will try and give it a clean and get some on this weekend.

Cheers

Still time poor, so no pictures to add yet.

Removed my arm rest yesterday to send it off to Royal Steering Wheels to be retrimmed - so looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Car is driving well, not sure how much difference changing the gear box oil has made to the changes when it's cold, but definitely feels smoother and slicker when the car has warmed up.

Difference having moved to none run flats is very noticeable, impressed with the Rain Sport 3's - even if it has been colder than it has been wet since they went on.

Yes come on Davoaj that would be good ... we've got at least 4 already going. Haven't heard from Myles for a while. Maybe we can persuade him to come too :D

I'd love to, but more likely to be the spring before I can get out of the house for a full day when I'm not in work!

Two kids under two doesn't allow much car time at the moment.

Oh right, in that case I might see what I can do.

It's my eldest's second birthday in July, could bring her along for some fun :fest:

Wheel and gear knob being delivered today :D Armrest is with Royal Steering Wheels, should have that back in a week or two.

Gave it a good clean last weekend, finally got to hit it with the clay bar and was pleasantly surprised how little contaminants came off it. Looking forward to the spring though and being able to give it more than a winter protection detail - I'm thinking a few more coats of poorboys black hole, topped up with a coat or two of collinite 845. Still no pictures though - need to sort that.

Really enjoying the drive, seems a lot sharper than my E90 330i was - know it has 7bhp more, but wonder if the map is a bit different on the 130i.
