I've had BMW Milton Keynes tell me today they've refunded 3 customer deposits on M2 CS and bmw have decided against building this! No competition pack or CSL planned for next year apparently, next M car out is the M3 CS... same story confirmed by Sytner BMW Romford as well

Since when did dealers know 'jack' ?. Maybe the refunds were to customers expecting a true CS model with potential to make quick profit.

I agree dealers aren't exactly known for being ahead of the game... but they've no reason in this case to lie and the 2 dealerships in question are not even part of the same group ie Sytner and Lancaster

I can't see bmw making all these changes for just a competition model, that's a serious amount of differences.
They already have. There are at least 20 of them built already.

I'll rephrase, I can't see bmw making all these changes at a similar or a few K more rrp. I still suspect it will be a limited production run with a much higher mark up. It's going to be epic either way.

Thanks.

I'll pop into my dealer this week but if this is true it changes things for me and I won't be putting the factory order in as I was planning to next week. I was happy with the 9 month lead time on the order as it tied in nicely with my lease car return. From reading the bimmerpost thread however the M2 competition will be getting the S55 engine which could make this a totally different car. I just don't know how I'd feel taking delivery of a car so close to it's end of production and being an 'old' model straight away. Got a bit of thinking to do now

I am a bit baffled as to why BMW would replace the 'base' M2 so soon with the competition. With an expected price rise this is will put it even closer to the M4. :-?

Again, pretty sure it's been confirmed as not being limited at all. I think it will be priced between base M2 and base M4 but with a la Carter options bringing it nearer M4.

Latest euro emission requirements is what is forcing death of N55 engine, hence base M2 EOP.

There is a chance the M2cs will be a good thing for those of us who just bought LCIs.

Give it an S55 and a £5k=£10k price hike and you've got an M3. Same engine noise (I assume), same traction issues, damn near the same price without the ability to add toys liek HUD, Surround View and full leather.

None of the mules I've seen have a carbon roof yet either.

My name is down for the sake of getting on the list early but I think the M2cs is pointless apart from adressing the emissions issue. Why didn't they just use a tuned B58 with some up-rated internals?

The thing that bugs me is that i see the current M2 priced perfectly. Adding the S55 plus the cost that goes with that might push the price up to low 50's before options. This IMO is too much for an 'entry' M. I'm now thinking of just waiting 9 months and grabbing a used LCI (subject to negotiating on their used apr rate) as I really like the current package. Ahhh I hate making decisions :lol2:

I'd happily get in to the m2 with the b58 engine that's currently in the m240i. does it really need the s55 engine.
The N55 in the M2 I am led to believe borrows components from the S55 and has some fairly significant changes to the N55 in the M135/235i.
...so they could have done the same thing. The B58 already has more torque than the M2 N55 IIRC so push the B58 up to 380bhp (I don't think 400bhp is necessary).

We all know (including BMW) the S55 in the cs is "detuned" therefore it will be "retuned"!

I also doubt it will have the water charge cooling and other gubbins the M3/4 has. Maybe it won't sound like an old man clearing his throat like the M3/4 does.

It would probably need to be a fettled B58 which hasn't been done has it? Cant imagine BMW would be very popular just shoving a standard B58 in the M2 Comp/CSL with a slightly higher tune on it, plus I don't imagine BMW would want to tune it to over 400bhp without some fairly major changes to it, again not sure if the B58 has had that sort of rework done to it....yet!

The N55 in the M2 I am led to believe borrows components from the S55 and has some fairly significant changes to the N55 in the M135/235i but then I am sure those in the know can expand even more.
I didn't release this was for the M2 Comp/CSL in that case the s55 would be best suited, I was talking about a revised standard m2 with the b58 I think the m2 should have came with the b58.
