Re: oil recommendations for 120d e87 2008 [opieoils]

I use G-Force 5w40 from OpieOils very cheap oil that meets specs, using this in my 318d now, change it every 7k is, used Fuch many times also but I'm a tight arse and oil is oil to me, more important to change it more frequently I think

Re: 120d oil ?

Any oil LL04 is just fine, cheaper the better, get mine from OpieOils it's like £18 for 5L or summit for "G-Force 5w40" changed every 8k or 7k depends if I'm passing :)

Re: E81 rear wiper removal

Looks smooth, but, I think you will miss it, they get very dirty rears very quickly especially in winter  My E91 is a joke!

Re: Getting a 118d, should i be worried about dpf?

Not sure on additives, but modern diesels aren't really designed for town driving, take an age to warm up (compared to petrols) which can cause other issues, a few trips down motorway may keep it healthy and regular oil services using low ash LL04 spec. I would be more worried about EGR problems, my...

Re: Clutch Judder?

Yes the clutch was revised at some point after 2008 - when I bought my new LUK clutch from EuroCarParts, it stated on the box (revised damper) so this may be what helps reduce the juddering.

Re: help diesel or petrol

Really think this will be the case? My 318d 2012 is [Euro5] this has made me rather worried.... https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/check-your-vehicle The knives are out for dirty Euro 5 cars. If you live in London maybe. I wouldn't worry too much just yet, it will be 10...

Re: help diesel or petrol

Thanks for all of your advice, I think I will be upsetting a salesman. BMW seem to be reducing the price on the diesels to get them selling, and trying to find a 218i (auto) is like looking for rocking horse poo. cheers Make 100% sure it's Euro 6 emissions, the Euro 5's could be taxed off some road...

Re: 2014 116d rear creak sounds

Yup exactly the same mate - mine was a creak, didn't think it was the bushes until I sprayed everywhere (like I said there is alot of joints at the back of a 1er, not just bushes) my mechanic used a whole can of spray! The noise was like a "metal on metal noise", uphill and over bumps when camber di...

Not at that mileage really (unless there was an issues) 150k would be more like it, if that in my opinion.

Re: Clutch Judder?

How long will it last? Who knows? It will wear some of the clutch away. The best long term fix is a new clutch and flywheel. (Doing this technique every now and then) My flywheel lasted until 135k it's the flywheel that's the issue, I got new clutch fitted at the same time, wear was completely mini...

Re: 2014 116d rear creak sounds

Yeah had the same on my E81 - get it up on the ramps if you can and spray some WD40 or equivalent into each joint (there is alot back there, a hell of alot compared to other cars) solved my creaks and groans forever.

Re: 123d - to keep or not to keep?

Jack - yes have a warranty in place, but need a reliable motor which 100k+ on mine may be asking for trouble. Love the spec on mine, but not enough to risk being without it when it eventually breaks down. 100k+ isn't a lot on a car these days - I've seen N47 engines go higher than 200k and know few...

Never used it - utterly pointless and will get it coded out eventually when I can be bothered - for now its part of my routine when start car to turn it off manually :)

Re: Start-Stop

Heard they are bad for timing chains "N47 diesel" constant stop starting and loading the chain up, some torque pulls on that engine on start up im sure...cant be good for longevity?
