Re: Steering moaning/groaning noise

Have you tried adjusting your steering rake? Worth a shot before you start pulling apart and lubing away...my steering groans from time to time, slight adjustment in rake solved it.

Re: Stop / Start and Service lights?

Loads of video's on YouTube for the "service reset" sure this can be done via the stalk... as for the Stop/Start I wouldnt know why this wouldn't work, but there needs to be a few correct conditions for it to work normally anyway, outside temps, engine running time etc. Personally wouldn't bother me...

Re: Might be buying 2017 1 series 118d msport

118d is a better option imo, less strained engine as it's detuned, plus you have the added bonus of no swirl flaps 👍 not much different in "real world" driving with the 118/20d unless you go for remaps etc, which I don't do so, each to their own.

Re: Air (Sound) leak and fume smell?

Check Flexi isn't split, stick cloth in exhaust and listen for rattle or hiss near flexi, or it could be split where exhaust meets cat on engine side (which would mean fumes entering the cabin) Need to get it up on a ramp for proper inspection, any decent exhaust garage will be able to do this and d...

E91 Cruise Coding? Any garage recommendations of where in North West, Chester area?

As title, I am looking for fitting and coding at reputable garage for my 2012 318d E91.

I have purchased the slip ring and bottom cowling, just need fitment and coding? Ideas on cost would be helpful aswell, cheers.

Re: 'Ultimate Driving Machine'

I just find BMWs so bland. Compare their interiors to Lexus, VW, Audio, Honda, Ford it's shameful for what you are paying, especially for a brand that has myriad of ridiculously expensive (to fix) issues going on under the bonnet. I'll be glad to get rid of the E87 (1990s dash/refinement and pixila...

Re: 'Ultimate Driving Machine'

Japanese cars are not what they use to be, plastic everything! Had an Toyota Avensis 2003 for many years (some say the last of the old breed), that felt like a tank, dumped 130k on this, very numb car but a good dependable machine...but, they do not feel like this anymore, all cars are the same, thr...

Re: GOD DAMN - Hesitation- 123d/125D

My guess is EGR, had exactly same on my 118d N47, or it could be a failing Flexi pipe on exhaust (common weak point) causing back pressure or something etc, again had same symptoms with that

Re: engine oil

already been said, but don't get hung up on brands of oil, as-long as its LL04 and 0w-30/5w-30 or 5w-40 all is good :) my cars are always long term cars, always taken to high miles (150k+) and always used a variety of flavours and brands, but spec has always been correct. btw 5w-40 is what i use on ...

Re: Has the N47 been fixed?

Yes they can have "dicky" chains, but if your doing 30k a year a 6pot will not suffice in my case. Some may say go older and get the M47, yes it was a good old engine, but the key word here is "old" lot of other things can rear its head with age related issues - always buy as new as you can! I have ...

Re: E87 engine problems

Don't think you can stick in a higher output engine in 118d 2005, unless you change rear diff...not sure on gearbox either (maybe wrong through) Higher output 120d's had different diff ratios. For what it's worth get same engine again so you know it will be fine, and if you want more power get a rem...

Re: Buying a used 1 series

£4000 is tight for diesel N47, unless it has been completely pampered mechanically - like my old 118d 2008. I sold that/gave that away for £2800!!! (some may remember on here me trying to sell it...) That had 169k on the clock, but like I said it had phenomenal service history and was completely ove...
