Re: Intermittent heavy Steering Issue - Finally Fixed!

Unfortunately my BMW "customer service consultant" only has this to say: "BMW UK work closely with the DVSA to ensure that the highest level of safety are maintained on our cars, all issues with cars are reported back to BMW UK so we can track any common issues. If we felt that the safety of a car h...

Intermittent heavy Steering Issue - Finally Fixed!

I have been suffering from an intermittent steering feel issue for over a year. Something wasn't right, but several trips to the dealer (both for this issue and routine service) resulted in "it's fine Sir" responses. Finally the fault became catastrophic (car almost un-driveable) and was sorted by t...

Re: Can you customise driving modes with coding?

My solution was to buy a "Power pedal" from TMC (purveyors of tuning boxes). It effectively gives me "Sport" throttle response even with the vehicle in Comfort mode (normal steering weight and soft damping for daily commute). Largely eliminates the feeling of massive turbo lag you get with comfort t...

Re: BMW: the good taste police

An option for the alcantara Recaros would certainly have been ticked. Alternatively if we had the base model option (like EU) with the hexagonal pattern cloth M Sport seats I wouldn't have opted for Dakota "leather" (which seems to be a composite of PVC and cardboard...)

Re: Brake Discs/Upgrades M235i

I was assuming you have to take the calipers off, and they require bolting back up to the right torque?
Or can you get the discs out just by pulling the pads?

Gee, a M135i Haynes manual would be nice! :)

Re: Brake Discs/Upgrades M235i

From Cotswold: "The price for the brake discs and securing bolts would be £333.37 inc VAT and delivery to mainland UK. (For a pair of the BMW dimpled/grooved discs Part Number - B 34.10.6.797.602)" So not twice the price of onlinecarparts... Anybody got a how to guide for brake disc changing? Bolt t...

Re: Do many people use their car on trackdays?

RN: Oh, ah ha ha ha. You see an old roller skate that's been left in the rain and is covered in rust and has got some dog plop on it? DB: Yes, I have seen such an item. RN: That's your car, that is. That's your car on a Saturday afternoon after you've spent the whole day polishing it up. And you're ...

Re: Do many people use their car on trackdays?

There's a "bloody great slice of ego related competitiveness" in this thread alone. LOL! The point is that taking your car on track has risks, from stone chips and cracked windscreens to tyre wall interface total loss. As I said in my very first post, if "it's just a car" and you aren't worried abou...

Re: Alignment Question

That's way out, have you bent the front shock absorber/hub? I had the wheel off (mainly to check the state of the rim) and had a poke around the suspension, but visual inspection isn't enough to detect what must be a relatively small discrepancy (1 degree camber at the wheel rim is 4mm). Might be t...

Re: Do many people use their car on trackdays?

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst...
I'd be quite interested to compare lap times between a stock M-lite and a stripped out Clio track slag on s/h slicks. I am not sure it is a "significantly worse" *track* car. Horses for courses and all that.
