Re: Air intake temp!!

Pretty sure mine has something connected to that... I can check in a few days when the car is back home.

Re: M47 engine/gearbox rattle

Hi all, thanks for the comments. It's not the engine cover. Had that before and know that sound in my dreams! Annoying... But I will remove it to rule it out. Might help with listening around the back of the engine anyway. I'll be changing the gear box oil this week or next, so I'll try to get a rec...

Re: M47 engine/gearbox rattle

Nope, it was done by a garage I trust, and the rattle was there before. I had assumed it was the flywheel, as it was causing problems anyway. I was susprised when the rattle was still there after having it replaced. To answer my own M47/N47 question: "I didn't find it but stumbled across another thr...

Re: M47 engine/gearbox rattle

Thanks for the comments. As far as I can tell the timing chain is at the front of the engine. I can see it under the oil filler cap. Can't hear the noise from there. It's more audible under the car. Recently changed the oil, no bits in it, just normal black diesel oil... Yes I own it... Drives perfe...

M47 engine/gearbox rattle

I've got a rattling noise at idle. It sounds as if it's a loose stone etc in the bellhousing being thrown around by the flywheel, or like a coin in a washing machine. I've just had a new clutch/flywheel fitted, so I'm as certain as I can be that it's not that. The noise does seem to be around the ba...

Re: Wheel alignment

With a reasonably fully loaded car (4 people in total) the inside edge of the rear tyres gets much hotter than the centre and outside edge, even around town. This is with the tyre pressure set to 39 psi as per the door sticker for 4 people. The front tyres are luke warm all over. The rears are prett...

Re: Trouble engaging 3rd gear

Yeh, I did quite a bit of reading too, and found nothing conclusive. Pretty similar to what you found really. The sticker is on the RHS of the box, where it bolts on to the block. Big yellow thing (if it's LT1/LT2) and I think it'll be a blue sticker for LT3. Sticker looks like this: http://photobuc...

Re: Trouble engaging 3rd gear

Actually Syntrans B is only specified for boxes with the LT2 by ZF... ZF specifies a different number for the LT3 boxes, the most common oils that match that are the Millers TRX Synth 75w-80 or the Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75W-80. Interesting, as I was told by this gear oil supplier that Syntrans B i...

Re: Trouble engaging 3rd gear

Thanks both. That's 2 recommendations here for the Castrol Systrans. I'm cautious about mixing oils for short terms gains as I plan to keep the car for a long time, so I think I'll play it safe and go with the Systrans, even though it is LT3 and the sticker on the box says LT2...

Re: Trouble engaging 3rd gear

Been in contact with a gear oil supplier and they've suggested this as a solution to the stiff shifting. Any thoughts? The Sintofluid 75w-80 [what is what I've currently got in, 6 months old] was recommended as a MTF LT2 spec at one point, so I wouldn't say that another 75w-80 is going to improve th...

Trouble engaging 3rd gear

I recently had a new clutch/flywheel fitted as the car was difficult to get into gear, particulary when cold. The clutch was not fully disengaging. At it's worst, when trying to push the gear through the gate, the car would crawl forwards driven by the syncros. Sometimes it was also 'notchy' going i...

Re: Oil...

Thanks all. As mine is non DPF I could use 01 or 04. But for the sake of emissions and the EGR valve, I'd be better off with 04. That's great, as that's what is in there now. I was hoping to use the 01 to top it up, and gradually use it up as I don't need it. But I'll play it safe and get some more ...

Re: Replacing glow plug relay - m47

As you look at the engine, it's to the RHS of the block, sort of below the oil filter housing. Awkward to get to. I repaired mine, wasn't too hard to be honest
Harder actually getting it disconnected from the loom and out of the car!
