Re: BMW M4 Unveiled at Pebble Beach

I think its stupid that bmw are launching all these new models, whats wrong with having a 3 series saloon, coupe and estate? why make loads of different models. The M3 has been an iconic car since it was launched and i think changing the coupe to an "M4" is going to ruin the whole M3 family, i thin...

Re: Merc 9G-tronic auto 'box

The transverse box is a lot more compact and the layout is totally different hence the losses are lower and 9 speeds was a better solution than 8. They have no plans for a higher torque transverse box as there's not a market big enough for it. The point I was making when ZF were designing the longi...

Re: Merc 9G-tronic auto 'box

Sorry logiclee I was referring to the 9-speed ZF box you mentioned - torquier engines seem to impose challenges? They've got the ZF8HP90 good for up to 1000Nm, not sure if an equivalent 9-speed box is due out e.g. ZF9HP90? I've no doubts the ZF is the better box, pitched against the 7G+, but it seem...

Re: Merc 9G-tronic auto 'box

ZF already have a 9 speed box available for transverse engines. They dismissed 9 speed for the ZF8HP as the losses were too great in the lower gears on high torque variants. 8 ratios worked out the more efficient. VAG, Hyundai and ZF are working on 10 speed transmissions. Hope Merc have built a qui...

Re: Merc 9G-tronic auto 'box

But look at the size of it! Must weigh more than the average pyramid. Not sure it does Marco; "Despite two additional gears and a maximum transferable torque of up to 1000 Newton metres, the new automatic transmission requires as little installation space as its predecessor and, in addition, is lig...

Merc 9G-tronic auto 'box

Looks like ZF et al need to step up their game a little: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/mercedes-news/156324-9g-tronic.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm quite happy with my 7G+ 'box but I guess automatic drive trains in particular benefit from as many gears as possible, in term...

Re: Goodwood this weekend

How the hell did you manage that Marco? Did you have invites? We went up to some of the stalls too to ask (arrived late too due to that bleedin' lorry on fire) but they reckon all spaces had gone at 7am! I rocked up around half past one and simply asked. The girl at BMW actually seemed pleased as s...

Re: Goodwood this weekend

I had a good day, arrived at lunchtime, negligible queues in or out. :D Took a new M5 up the hill climb, very nice despite the slushbox. £77k though! :shock: Didn't quite manage to stick to the 70mph speed limit.... :lol: - No M135i's to test drive today, wanted to try a manual. :( Fiesta ST was fu...

Re: Anyone having 2nd thoughts on the M135i vs A45 AMG?

If you feel a bit flush (it's £295!) you can try the A45 on the track: https://onlineshop.mercedes-benzworld.c ... ience.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
