Sparkling Black aero spoiler on Sparkling Graphite Grey E81

Post by THETYRANT » Tue Nov 14, 2017 7:37 pm

So I managed to pick up a good condition used but genuine BMW aero roof spoiler to go on my new 130i, it came off a sparkling black car and my original intention was to colour code it graphite grey to match my car as usual with these, however I wondered what it would look like in black as the rear windows have a dark tint so rested it on today after unpacking and took a quick snap as below and its not bad, different! so what do you think guys leave black or colour code to rest of car ?
I cant decide! will probably get a few more pics when car is clean and its not such a dull day before I make up my mind :)

I think its hard to tell from that photo. I can imagine what it does look like. I don't think it'd look bad but not better than colour coded...as a result I'd play it safe (especially for resale of the car) and get it colour coded. Good to see some more photos though.

She looks like a good 'un Ian!

I'm with Jon on the spoiler, colour coded.

If you got the roof wrapped black it would match up nicely but otherwise I’d get it colour coded personally

Yes colour coded 100%

Although front splitters are normally black so not sure why this looks so out of place but it just does.

First, the car looks great!
Second, I think the dark spoiler actually looks quite good.. maybe it'd be even better in black like the window. A good set of photo's and some tinkering with paint should give a good indication I reckon. I'd stick to it for at least a while, I think it might grow on you.
Third, please pretty please don't let resale value nonsense hold you back.. everybody loves your suspension quest and if that's what you like doing, please keep at it 8)

Give it to me to put on my sparkling black 130

Looks great though. What price do they go / did you pick it up for if you don't mind me asking?

I picked it up for £90 on ebay which wasn't bad, they are £160 new from Cotswolds on here but they are in primer so need a little prep and paint, at least with new ones you don't have to spen an hour removing all the old fixing tape like it did last night!....also I was hoping this black would look ok which I think it does but I prefer them colour coded so its off to be painted :D

Why not keep the spoiler black and colour code THE CAR to match? I can't believe this hasn't been suggested yet!

That's a nice one: my favourite n/a 6pot model...probably because I was very fond of my 325TI. Are you pleased with it?

Will you go for Ohlins or Konis?

My vote would have been to paint the spoiler - classy sleepers appeal to me, I don't like turning heads any more than necessary in my daily driver.
