New 130i owner (almost)

Post by WhisperingWasp » Fri Jul 07, 2017 6:37 pm

Hello all.

So my Z4 3.0si has gone and in its place I require something more practical (the missus has now got a 2-seater). After much umming and ahhing I narrowed the search down to mk6 Golf GTIs when it then dawned on me that there was a perfect compromise!

The 130i has been on and off my radar for years and tbh I'm not sure why it didn't immediately spring to mind. It keeps the engine I loved and the RWD dynamics but adds the practicality I need.

I was/am particularly looking for an LE (as a minimum an LCI 3-door manual with xenons) and when I first looked there were 3 or 4 for sale which looked suitable. However, these have since sold or I have discounted them and I have been keeping an eye out in all the usual places since.

I have now found one that I am seriously interested in and I presume I can post a link?

It has quite a high number of owners and chances are one or two of you may be amongst them. I was just wondering if your collective knowledge could appraise this car for me or offer any useful info/opinions? It seems to have quite a few nice extras (BMW Performance) - some of which I am sure are more sought after than others.

Opinions please :)

Thanks

Some nice performance parts especially the brakes, but they've added these parts to the price IMO

£7.5 maybe £8K tops but bodywork needs to be mint which from the photos doesn't look tip top.

That's a nice looking car, seems like it's had quite a few mods so I'd be surprised if it's not been a forum members at some point. Like Twenny says, if the bodywork's as rough as seems to look in a couple of the shots you're going to want a chunk off the asking price.

I've got a feeling that might be Jiggaman's old car.

Thanks all.

Yeah I think the front bumper has got its fair share of stone chips but otherwise I'm struggling to gauge the bodywork. I know what you mean but I don't think the light is the most flattering.

What are your thoughts on the side skirts, spoiler and diffuser - as far as I can tell they are BMW items?

Be interested in Jiggaman's opinion if so...

Thanks

Yep that's my old car.

The intake, exhaust, brakes, short shift are all BMWP items. The skirts and spoiler are bmw aero parts. The diffuser is not carbon it's the original with a hydro dipped carbon look, and in my opinion looked spot on.

The front bumper does have its fair share of stone chips, but the rest of the paintwork is in reasonable condition. By reasonable I mean it's probably fine, but I was particularly anal about the paint and always took as much care as possible when cleaning, 2 bucket methods and always used to quality products etc.

It's has a shed load of history on the car with all previous receipts, brand new tyres (they were on about 2 weeks before I traded it). The common DSC fault was fixed under warranty last year and I have always kept up the servicing etc.

I guess that price is pretty high (and nowhere near what I got back for it ) but it is a great car that has never let me down and was a real struggle to part with and I would love to see it go to a forum member.

If you can get a good price on it then I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Brilliant - thanks for that reply Jiggaman.

Are you saying you are the most recent owner of the car? ie just before this garage have got hold of it? They mentioned that "due to data protection" the history wouldn't be passed on, just the service book. This seems a massive shame if there was quite a file. I'll press them on the subject.

Great to hear that it never let you down. Did you look to sell via here first?

Thanks

Yes I was the last owner.

I guess the receipts have my name and address on them but if you did look to buy the car I could confirm I'm happy for you to have them, assuming they would listen to me.

I did briefly try and sell via the forum and had a bit of interest but I had already had my head turned by an M235i and it was easier to trade it in. Twenny was bang on with his estimate as that's what I was looking for.

It also had the M3 lca's on it and new track rod ends, Dick Lovett BMW also refurbed the alloys before they traded it out.

Thanks again Jiggaman.

This is the trouble with a trade sale I suppose - Dick Lovett wanted a profit from the trade in and now Autostrada want theirs... Be interesting to see how much movement there is on price.

They mentioned some kerbing to the alloys so don't know if this has happened in the short time since?! Would be a shame.

You were the sixth owner I believe - is it quite normal for these (specialist) cars to have quite high owners? People wanting to sample the engine, for example, then moving on?

Thanks

Maybe they didn't actually refurbished the alloys then in that case. They told me they would.

I can't really comment on the number of owners. Although the owner before me was also from Bristol and had all his services done at Dick Lovett and I saw how much he paid for every service, tyres, and the side skirts, so clearly her loved the car also.

Ha yeah that's quite a car If you can get them down on the price.

Jiggaman has loved this car and when speaking to him at Santa Pod last weekend you could genuinely see he was sad to see it go.

It's definitely worth a view as it has all the right decent mods I'd be looking for in a 130.

Thanks again.

Sounds an overall positive vibe for the car then. Just a case of the right price I suppose :)

Going to see it Sunday so will keep this updated.

Thanks

Just frustrating you didn't look on here a couple of weeks ago or poor Jigga had waited, you'd both of benefitted by around £2K each
