Amazing how these cars keep going round in the trade. I only asked jiggaman about this car a couple of weeks ago.
I just never seem to get the time to travel and look at cars.
Sadly in the meantime my budget is dribbling away in household bills and the cars seem to be getting more expensive.

Well well well. I didn't take much convincing! As soon as I saw the car I knew I would have it.

I went on the 6 hour round trip with a negative gut feel as I too felt the pictures made the bodywork look a bit iffy. Having now seen the car I think a lot of that was down to how the car was photographed. I was very pleasantly surprised by the condition and the side skirts - which I was convinced I wouldn't like - really grew on me. I then started the car, blipped the throttle a touch and was smitten!

The test drive reassured my first impressions. The engine was very familiar coming from the Z4 and it all felt very solid.

The less said about the price the better! Tbh I think a lot of my attitude towards the cost is down to the realisation that a private deal could have been done not that long ago. On the plus side it will come with 12 months MOT and a fresh service. Also, the only other comparable car on the market at the mo is the same money, more miles and has none of the extras.

Save for any unforeseen disasters I will be picking it up next Sunday :D

Excellent news, I knew you would like it when you saw it.

I'm obviously biased but I think it's one of the stand out E81s around.

If they still hold all the history for the car then I'm happy to contact them and try and get it released to you, just let me know.

Excellent news Wasp. I've had mine for 7 years now and when I first went to test drive it I had probably driven less than 1/2 mile before there was no going back. I still love driving it as much now as I did then. I suspect very much that you will not be disappointed 👍

Well done on your new purchase. You won't be disappointed. Just goes to show you sometimes have to put the miles in to get the best examples out there. :spotman:

Thanks all.

Jiggaman - they have suggested that whatever they receive they will pass on so I'm hoping there's more than just the service book. Can't imagine the BMW dealer would have just shredded all the pw! I am yet to see any of the service history - Autostrada will pass on the details when they get it - but from what they and you have said I am comfortable.

Golfer - I can definitely see myself bonding with this car. Something in truth I never did with the Z4. I can also see me keeping it for some time as - even based on just first impressions and assumptions - it is such a do-it-all car. RWD dynamics and THAT engine yet will carry four and do a tip run!

Pem10 - I am an MR2 man at heart and my last one of them (sixth) I flew to Ireland, ferried it to Scotland and drove it back to East Mids! Today was local in comparison! Do agree though, for the right car (particularly specialist ones) travelling is worth it.

If you need to know details of service history, there's a number you can ring and BMW will explain the whens and whats...used to be 0906 209 2001 (£1 a minute though ) may have changed now.

I used it for mine just as I had some questions why it had so much. Just seems it was 'over serviced', if there's such a thing.

Jiggaman - only history being passed on is stamped service book. Frustrating if you part-ex'd it with loads of paperwork. Dunno where it has ended up?!

I'd be keen to know this, as my 130i was from a BMW dealer, and also only came with the service book
Would be nice to be able to gather all previous receipts to put with mine since owning it

Autostrada have nothing more than they will give me (service book). Can try calling DL again but if they haven't passed on to the dealer I can't imagine they will to me?!
