Replacement Business CD Head Unit - Will it work?

Hi, I am sure this information is hiding in the forums somewhere but I am yet to find it. I am looking to purchase a replacement Business CD for a 1 Series E87, although I'm unsure whether it will work right away, or require some BMW specialist coding. I've read and been told different things so wanted to ask you guys before buying one. I was under the impression I could find a unit of the same year/model with the same features as mine and it will just 'plug and play' - however speaking to some breakers I've been told they will all need coding regardless of the similarity in age and vehicle. My original head unit had factory fit rear sensors and aux in addition to all other standard options. Can anyone confirm or had experience doing it themselves?

Hi! Just received a replacement Business CD head unit and although it almost works as expected, the PDC option is not there, so my factory fit rear sensors are not working (confirmed there is no issue with the sensors themselves or the pdc module). So, is this something that I can resolve through the settings or 100% has to be re-coded into the radio and if so any tips on who could do this? Either someone on the forum or anyone in the Bristol/Bath area would be great...Thanks!

Update - spoke to some local BMW specialists and it sounds as though it's not possible to code any replacement CD Head Unit to work with the rear sensors. Supposedly a new unit has to be bought and coded from BMW direct, with the obvious £££s that go with it. I'm not actually that fussed with using them myself, but it is something I would like working before I choose to sell the car so would like it sorted sooner rather than later. Can anyone confirm this info is correct from personal experience? Cheers.

Sounds like bovine excrement to me. If BMW can code it, then it can be coded by anyone with the right kit. If no-one else pipes up, PM Wibbles from BR diagnostics, and he'll give you the definitve answer; if it can be done (which I'm 99.99% sure it can), he'll quote you. He can do it remotely (if you have the cable and software, or want to buy it for other things), or worst case go old school and post it to him ( :D ).

Which part numbers do you have (old and new HU's), just to be absolutely sure they're compatible.

Haha, yeah my thoughts exactly! I managed to get hold of the exact same part number for the replacement so pretty confident it's compatible..got my aftermarket unit hooked up with the sensors now so all is good, but will give Wibbles a shout to sort the standard HU..Nice one thanks :cool2:
