Angel eye help please?

Post by Mannix » Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:22 pm

Hi I have a 2013 118d M sport E82 with stock halogens...they bob down and up again when I start the car (assuming auto levelling) and I’d like to get some plug and play angel eyes to replace my lights...can anyone recommend a product or tell me what I need? I’ve no idea about lights at the moment and can’t afford to buy the wrong ones lol
seems my car was a fairly late build judging by the fact that a lot of parts say E82 upto 2011...and sometimes when I put the reg in it comes up as the new f series which its not...so thats added to my confusion

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Mannix

Angel eye help please?

Hello again mannix I have just replied in your spacer thread lol

Hmmm this is interesting. The 2013 E82 have the upgraded rear lights which are the Celis or darkline lows but I’m still fairly certain that depos would be ok to fit.

These should be ok - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 1242507797

However. They do look a million times better than halogens but the light output is reported to be sub standard. There is a FAQ in the lighting part of the forum that our old friend Dan116 put together that explains this problem very well. (And also plenty of helpful info contained in there) - http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54596

I currently have a set of depo V2 with the HID kit fitted to my E82 and they are definitely one of my favourite visual mods. But they aren’t cheap (£350-400)

Thanks again :) they look great, slighty confused on the legality as I dont have headlight washers etc, may have to go for brighter bulbs in the halgens for now but should he funds be available I’ll
Go for these its exactly the look I like :D

I believe headlight washers are only required for xenon headlights not depos.

Tweeny, are you able to link to the HiD kit you used? Struggling to decide which is the right one to get

Umm I’m afraid not mate as I bought the complete set off a forum member last year. I could message him for you and ask where he got them from?

Like Twenny, I went down the Depo route (got mine from mstyle.co.uk - v helpful chap if you ring who will help sort you out). Mine were bought for me as a present (the OHs punishment for getting me into cars) but by the time HIDs were also included I think about £450.

A few notes:
Low beam doesn't give great light output but it's manageable

Don't forget to switch out your main beam bulb for something brighter (or you have the white rings, yellow bulb glow)

If you go down this route, when you install the lights check to see of they're set to RHD or LHD- for mine it was a tiny metal switch inside the casing. I almost missed it. Would've been a pain to go in and sort it out second time round!

Finally, the install (or so I found) is a right faff. The bumper is a bit of a pain to get off so I'd recommend 2 people, also we had to cut a whole in the back of the lights for the ballast kit and cable tie it in the engine bay.

All that being said, totally worth it and glad I upgraded!
Now: custom mapped E82 123d running at 279bhp on 18s (pinched from a 135i), resprayed, depo v2s and carbon fibre wingmirrors.
Next job: super exciting, a new windscreen, and discs and pads all round .
