E82 water pdc issues where does it come from?

Post by Phil131 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 6:43 pm

Some of you may of seen my thread on the common issue I have had with water getting into where the pdc module is stored. Does anyone know where it comes in from? I have spotted condensation in my rear light but the amount of water in he bottom I wouldn’t of thought it would be due to that.

It come from rear light seal. I used home window seal to be sure it will not come back. Sometimes rear vent are the issue

Four likely candidates
1) the seal around the rear light cluster
2) the seal around the air exit vent (right next to the PDC module). The inner and outer parts are just clipped together, so if the plastic clips break/decay, then water can get past.
3) the vent itself; some were fitted upside down, so rather than letting air out whilst keeping water from getting in, the water just flows in
4) boot/hatch seal failure.

1 and 2 have been mentioned on here quite a bit. 3 is mentioned, but not as often. 4 is unlikely, but depends what you've had stuffed in the boot over years.

Mine was 2; sealed with some black roofing sealant (I used bitumin based, as it sticks like sh!t even in the wet, and remains flexible - some on here have used silicone). Mines been fine for a few years now.
E87 118d, stock, plus PDC control unit drain, Parrot, debadged, Mothercare baby shades (but no babies), and occassionally a good layer of wax. Instantly forgettable, and thats the way I like it.
