Rear window water jet issue and need help

Post by Bunford » Mon Jan 15, 2018 9:38 pm

I have an issue in that my rear window water jet isn't working. I have taken off the black cap and removed the valve and cleaned using an air compressor duster and blown into the pipe. After putting back together there's no difference.

I know this is a fairly common issue with the 1 series, but can't find anything that has a simple guide as to how to repair.

Anybody got any fairly detailed instructions or could walk me through a troubleshoot and repair?

Hate to say it but if you search this forum there's loads. You're gonna have to take the trim off and see if it's the motor or the pipe leading to it. Go from there. Very common.

Remove the rear panel, and take off the rubber tube to the motor, before the one way valve, which is an inline black valve.. . Close the tailgate and see if the water comes out of the tube if the wash is operated. If it comes out of the tube, your getting water to the tailgate. Remove the tube off the wiper motor, and add the one way valve again... operate the washers, remembering to close the tailgate... No water, its the one way valve. Water comes out, its a blockage within the motor itself. You can strip it down but its a pain in the arse. I did, and cleaned it up. There is an array of contacts behind the drive cog, that enable electrical switching of the wash wipe motor, and this one ws in a poor way. Cleaned up it all started working.. Your job is just a process of elimination.

First check the non return valve on the pipe work to the motor isn’t blocked.
Then check the internal metal waterway isn’t full of rust as this is the most common issue.

Well I checked mine today and I couldn't believe that the pipe had just disconnected from the motor!! Seriously! Chuffed.

Result! Why did it disconnect though? Possibly too much backpressure from a blocked motor? Keep eye on it in case it pops off again.

Has anyone bought one of the cheaper rear wiper motors off Ebay ? They are half the price of the Valeo ones.
