Battery

Post by WolverineMac » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:12 pm

It must be time to change my battery, the warning light has been coming on for the last 3 months as soon as I turn the engine off. It appears to be the same battery from new in July 2017.

Battery part no is 61 21 6 917 884.

Where are you guys sourcing these from?

This was literally the first Google hit: https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/oenumb ... 17884.html

Don't forget to have the new one coded/registered to the car.

Thanks was getting confused as everywhere was stating a bosch one:

Europarts wanted £309.99
https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car- ... gKxpvD_BwE

Alpha batteries £159.99
https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/096-b ... gIcd_D_BwE

Everywhere was mentioning an S6 not S5.

As far as coding, I guess my local indy should be able to do

Just skipped one of those Bosch S6 batteries as failed after 2.5 years. Last Bosch battery I buy, total crap.

Just bought this

2.5 years is disappointing, was it correctly coded to the car?

You get half back if you are lucky and they find a fault, and you have have to courier it back. Not worth the aggro.

Spoken to my indie and he is not happy coding the new battery. I guess I will have to get a quote from the main dealer. Based in Eastbourne

Why? That can't be much of a garage. Buying Carly and the battery coding add-on will be cheaper than going to the main dealer...but there must be a local garage that can do it for you for less...if you don't fancy a Carly.

By my reckoning Carly costs over £100 with adapter, app and in-app battery registration fee. Which is fine if you plan to use it for other things but expensive if just to register a new battery. My BMW dealer fitted new battery, registered it and disposed of old battery for £63. OK, not the cheapest option around but a significant saving over the cost of Carly for me.
