Got my letter yesterday which made me chuckle, basically said dont bother calling until we send another letter as we are snowed under!...however if car exhibits symptons like cutting out or other electrical problems give them a call, will wait for next letter :D

I got two letters yesterday, one for my E91 and the other for my old E81 that I PX'd to BMW 2 years ago!!

I discarded the old E81 letter and then read the E91 letter expecting it to say phone for an appointment, but as THETYRANT says, it just goes on about waiting for another letter! :D

Seems BMW avoided being found guilty of corporate manslaughter over this recall problem.

This maybe a daft question but this recall won't effect any coding or a remap that has been done on the car?

Effectively it's just like changing over a battery in the sense that they are replacing the cable, so I'm sure it wouldn't effect the ecu, but I definitely don't want to be losing anything :o

Mines booked in for tomorrow

Dropped mine off this morning and there is now no charge for the courtesy car, just asked for the fuel back...which is nice. Let's see what they find on the 'free health check

Mines a 2006 model so apparently doesn’t need doing
Mine is 2006 pre LCI. Not on the recall list either, so far.
Now confirmed as not being on the recall list. 2006 e87 120d M47.

Just took mine in, gave me a 420i after I asked for one. Didn’t have to pay anything

2 weeks ago, while driving at the nurburgring my 2007 E81 didn't want to start after lapping. That happened to me 2 or 3 times during the weekend and I thought the starter motor was dying.

Yesterday I received the recall letter, and I am wondering if I should buy a starter motor and loose several hours to replace it, or if I should just call BMW to replace the battery cable?

Is this starter problem likely to be caused by the cable issue? What do you reckon?

Got my letter through today! My car does 3 on the list of things they said may occur and I’ve spent the last 18 months trying to fix it by changing stuff including having the remap taken off!
The central locking is sporadic
It sometimes cuts out
And it hesitated and jerks about when driving!

Gonna call them tomorrow and hopefully book it in ASAP as I’m not waiting for another letter if it can be squeezed in! It actually has these problems so hoping it’ll fix it

Mine also does two of the three things on the list, most annoying is the central locking doesn’t work right, really slow when unlocking. The start stop has only come on twice in five months.

I rang about four weeks ago to get booked in but they never called back. After receiving my letter I Rang again on Thursday and booked in for a safety check this Thursday as the dealer is concerned that my faults could be the onset of the problem that the recall is there to prevent.

Even if it does have the problem they don’t have any parts to fix it with as there is a massive shortage of parts. I asked what happens if my car is faulty...

Either a courtesy car until it’s fixed or they could take parts designated to another (none urgent) that’s booked in and use them on mine. But that would be up to the service manager and the girl on the service desk suggested this would only be in extreme circumstances (ie mine is f***ed and they have no courtesy cars available I guess).

I recieved a recall letter from bmw saying it needs installing repair cable for positive battery terminal line,
If it's showing symptoms give them a ring otherwise wait for another letter stating when it can be done

Well after saying they hadn’t enough parts to go around, they did the work yesterday.

Said there were no other faults so hopefully the slow moving central locking buttons and the lack of start stop will now go away.

Only drove home from the dealers yesterday and then to work this morning, but the central locking seems better today (could be placebo effect?!)
