120d Propshaft Coupling

Post by leicschris » Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:12 pm

Hi All

I have a 2005 BMW 120d which broke down on the motorway the other day when the rubber propshaft coupling disintegrated leaving us with no drive and the AA transporting us home.

I have received a new part, part number 26117511454 which realoem says is the correct part number but it doesn't seem to fit as when I offer it up to the propshaft the holes in the donut are wider apart than the holes on the propshaft.

has anyone fitted these. is there a method to it or is there two different types, a bigger one and a smaller one?

thanks in advance

Chris

There are 2 different sizes, what is last 7 digits on your vin number ?

Edit to add, looking on realoem the 120d should be the larger of 2 options with 96mm Bolt PCD, but 116/120i etc has smaller 78mm PCD, however its not always 100% on there! did you match it to your vin or just search by year etc ?

HI all
I have looked on realoem using the last 7 digits of the VIN and it comes up as a 118d but the part number is the same

This post should act as a timely reminder to older 1 series owners .

Hi All

they may have sent the wrong part although googling seems to show that the part sizes match the part sent.

does anyone else have the other donut part number so I can compare it to what I have.

BMW want £137 for the part that I got originally for £43 so there is a big difference if I have to buy the BMW one.

You can see both sizes on this link for 120i .... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... 6117511454

Oh here is a link to decent quality pattern version of smaller one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314-152-0001 ... SwE8dac62p

No problems, should be easy enough to get from local motor factors etc, plenty on ebay if you punch in that number :)

Hu
another strange thing, the pictures on realoem all show the end of the propshaft to have three bolt holes whilst my propshaft has four holes for bolts.

mine is manual car although I don't think that makes a difference.

What's the warning earlier about early one series mean? Did BMW just use whatever they had on the shelf

Pictures on realoem are often just generic so always best try find a picture online of the actual part once you have the part number, not always possible but has saved me a few times doing so.
