hi all
if you are going to buy a diesel ,make sure you have no swooshing or chuffing noises from back of engine ,hard to hear at first .
will be the timing chain issue thats more common than people think . if i found this forum first it would of saved me a lot of grief coming .
What can I expect to find in my boot of my 2007 118d think is a E87
I currently have:
A pop up warning triangle
Locking wheel nut key
And a little pouch with a towing eye, screwdriver and a 10. mm spanner (what the hell is the screwdriver and spanner for)
Good list, thanks for the info. It would be useful if new users to the site could post wanted ads. very unlikely people without a 1 series will have made 20+ posts in order to submit a wanted ad. Thanks.
not sure where to post this....bought today from a glasgow dealer 26500 is that a good deal for a basic M135i performance (no extras) what does the community think???? should i have pushed it further??
Hi ive joined this forum as im going to look at a 2.0tdi with me girlfriend as its for her for travelin with her new job comin up, gone for diesel for the good mpg so just wanted to get some advice on what to look out for as obviously want a good one cheers for any advice
Due to pick my car up from the body repair shop tomorrow.
Maidstone bmws body repair shop, any tips on what I should check for when collecting the vehicle?
It's had a new rear bumper and rear quarter panel.
I would say main things are check it has 4 wheels that turn. A engine that starts up. Doors thats are connected properly. A exuast on the back some seats and a steering wheel then you know its been looked after.

Ditto ... but seriously the best thing that I have ever learned about inspecting cars - including collecting "new ones" is to take somebody with you! It's so easy to get distracted by signing paperwork/being offered coffee etc etc that you can slip up. I've had 2 instances when picking up new cars when there has been dings in the doors and bumpers which had I not had the missus with me (who believe me has eyes like the proverbial s..t house rat) I would have signed off on. TAKE SOMEBODY WITH YOU!!

I've taken a bit of a risk and am expecting delivery of a '57 123d Coupe today... the catch is that it's done 170,000 miles
Obviously i'm not expecting it to be perfect, but what are the main thing I should be checking for on delivery?
Aside from "chuffing" and "wooshing" noises, are there any other warning indicators that the timing belt is on its way out?
I purchased a 116i M sport (2009) today with 111,000 on the clock. Spent nearly 2 hours checking the car over from inside and out. Took a Carista OBD scanner with me to check codes and look for failures etc. I'd recommend bringing a torch with you and checking under the car/engine for leaks and cracks etc. My wife did the interior check and switched on/off every single switch in the car and checked A/C etc. I checked brake pads and discs for wear level etc. and then did further inspection of the engine and checked all fluids and filters etc. Obviously a car of this age will have wear and tear but it seemed to have been cared for. Managed to do a 45min test drive before buying and it was great in every way! Managed to get a free MOT, oil/oil filter change which saved me a few pence and got £200 off the asking price. Better than nothing.
Just joined forums
Hope im posting in right place,
Going to collect my 116d 2.0 5 door 2009
Its had the dpf done already,
What should i be looking for is the chain possibly a problem to this model and im guessing there dual mass flys
Thanks in advance
Mike
A friend gave me some advice on car buying today. Check the quality of the tyres on the car. It's a strong indicator to how well the car has been looked after (or if the owner is a cheapskate)
Not just you, I had a look, this thread is missing the main content of the first page rendering it rather useless.
