Surely it's best to call the seller then you have a response straight away (usually). You also get an idea as to what type of person they are too which can also tell you how the car has been treated. When it comes to car buying I would always call

I couldn't agree more. I know not everyone is comfortable calling but it does give you a chance to ask questions, hear how enthusiastic or knowledgable they are about the car and get a feel for the current owner. A phone call also gives the seller a sense of how serious you are about buying.

I've just sold 2 cars (MX5 S Special and an E39 530i) to buy a 130i. I got over 35 emails between the two ads (in under a week). A lot of them were asking same questions, the answers for which were already covered in advert (things like service history, MOT length etc) so some went unanswered. I sold both cars to the first people who picked up the phone and had a conversation with me.

Good luck finding a 130i - you won't regret buying one. Two weeks in to owning one and I love mine - wish I'd bought one sooner.

I am waiting for a phone call people ... Only need one buyer to come along. Snap yourself up a gem of a car! Beware, if you ring me, we may chat for some time, as I am sure some of you can tell, I like to talk! They call me Bob Hoskins for any of you old enough to remember the old BT adverts!

Of course I would pick up the phone straight away if my desired spec and colour came up, these enquires were all for cars I'm not 100% sold on. However I do find sending an initial email with a list of questions works well, the seller can go away and dig up the info, take pictures of the service book etc.

Ironically though for the one I'm most interested in, the seller said they had poor mobile signal and preferred email contact instead!

Yeah car's gotta be right. A 3dr is rare here and a fair few of them are black or white. Seen like 5 cars over probably 4 years or so (yeah..).

5 door is easier, but any 130i with a specific spec is fairly rare. Patience will get you there..

I'm after non-monochrome colour, xenons, parking sensors, memory and heated seats... but using those criteria yields basically nothing! Am I asking for too much? :)

I might give it a couple of months and if I fail in my quest to get a 130i, will probably just get an E46 330Ci as there's loads more choice!

monochrome means 1 colour as such you wont find many of them.
As for your other requirements you may well have to compromise but bear in mind that a 330ci is a very different car from a 130i and as such is not really an alternative.

Only you can answer that question.. if you're willing to keep searching then there no problem. Do you want it now, then you might have to go for one and add the options yourself.

Or get a facelift 330ci with M pack, possibly the best looking car they ever made.. 8)

Stuff like "If you are after perfect paint/ bodywork, please look away now (unless you want a detailing project) as has been a family battlewagon and has the car park scars to prove it." with pictures showing it kinda puts me off though! Along with the condensation in the headlights...

Yeah the bodywork on that one would take a respray and some filler or heat on the front bumper to get back in decent condition. Condensation could be sorted.

Hi guys, the pre-FL with Birds B1 in London is mine. I actually bought it off a chap (Dirtytool!?) from this forum in 2013!

Anyway, would rather be upfront with bodywork condition, it's kind of a pointless task to fix every little scrape while in London, some people just go out of their way to cause damage. It's certainly been kept on top of regarding mechanical work and pulls sweet and strong. Hopefully without contravening forum selling rules, the car is begging for someone to drive it away, and yes currently gathering condensation in headlights like it's crying…
