130i remap in Yorkshire?

Post by DeanYork » Mon Jan 09, 2017 8:12 pm

Has anybody in Yorkshire had their car remapped locally? The main tuning companies seem to be down south, so I was wondering if there's any around the York area, but I'd go as far as Manchester or the North East if needs be. I want to get a before and after dyno with it, but I know some are unreliable.

My car is completely standard, has done 107k, and had a new clutch and dmf about 800 miles ago. I've got a bit of lag sometimes when accelerating, so I'm guessing the VANOS solenoids need cleaning or replacing, but that'll be done beforehand anyway.

I just don't want any buffoon doing it, and there's plenty of them about.

Cheers. Dean.

You should know, the gain from a remap on a 130i isn't great. Its a NA engine, no turbo and the gains are in the region of 20 to 30bhp I believe. I would invest in a LSD, suspension and your vanos before a remap.

I would be amazed if you could get even 20bhp on a remap.

The cheapest way to get more power when you have a 130i is likely to be selling it and buying something else.
Ordered - F20 M140i manual
Was - 07 E81 130i

Yeah it's not so much the outright power from a remap, but an improvement in drivability. I'm read some reviews from other guys in here, and they're very positive.

Also, since ditching the run flats, I'm much happier with the handling. It's never going on a track, and as it is, it's perfectly capable on a B road blast. I'm not too concerned about other handling mods tbh, but I'll certainly be looking at exhaust and intake.

It's about smoothing out the flat spots. It's not always about bhp gains.

P-Torque is located in Birmingham. Not a million miles away from Yorkshire.
Just had a look and it's 2h 48mins, and 148 miles away. Not too bad tbh.

Going home you'll probably do it in 2 hours tops

Haha quite possibly, although I might want to go the long way!
Back in the summer I told my wife that I was going out to wash my car, then three hours later I reappeared back home after going the long way home via the North Yorkshire Moors! She wasn't pleased, but it was well worth it :D

You can also alter the throttle body if you are looking for outright response. I haven't seen one on a 1series but other BMWs is quite positive.

As you maybe have read in the remap section on this forum ,i remapped my 130i few weeks ago and am very pleased indeed!

It got 20+ hp and ,more important ,30+nm torque at low revs added to the power band.

But the most pleased i am with how incredible smooth the car is now...torque is available at an instand from low revs and that extra kick above 4500 rpm is great aswell, but less important then the torque gains...

Also the car reacts much more direct on the throttle...almost instantly!

So no ,you wont see massive hp gains ofcourse, but it does make a very nice engine even nicer... :D

I would agree with these sentiments based on my experience of a DMS remap. No night and day change but well worth doing for the even smoother more linear power delivery and the more immediate throttle response. Difficult to notice the 15 to 20hp gains up top but you notice it in the mid range.

No not really, stayed around 29mpg for the driving I do. If anything probably dropped a little as I drove the car harder and do mostly country A and B road driving which isn't great for economy!

I've been thinking about this too. I'm near Huddersfield so leeds is handy. Wonder if we could get a little discount if the two cars were done together?

Love the sound of the remap but somebody has yet to mention £££

How much does it typically cost on the 130i?

Give us an idea

That's got to be far too tempting at those prices - think I'd be going the dyno rolling road option
