Thread lock down so quick

Post by Penetrator » Tue Aug 23, 2016 4:18 pm

Why do the "Admin" shut threads down so quick on BBMW?? It gives no chance for any banter. Yes sometimes things can get out of hand slightly, but all to often as soon as someone disagrees with something BOOM thread locked! Really? This is a great forum, but we're all adults and I think the cotton wool needs to be cast aside.

Please let some threads play out.

Ban him. Clearly a trouble maker.

All joking aside I'm very serious. This is a great forum, but run too restricted some times.

Colin (Admin / site owner) doesn't like to upset the sponsors, so the rules are pretty clear. He doesn't want it to turn into a banter site like facebook, or a harsh site like Pistonheads.

Warm and friendly, no arguments. :)

Have a go here for bants: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1633026747020577/
Side group for those that like a bit of hardcore banter and p*ss ripping cos who even gives a fish like

Ok I hear what your saying. I'm active on a few forums and unless things get completely out of boundaries the threads stay active. I know 100% I'm not on my own here, just people probably won't chirp up so I guess I'll take the hit.

With sponsors paying cash I suppose we don't want to upset them.

90% of lock-downs come as a result of threads being reported, or PM's asking for locks/deletes from the OP (like the last one). People chirp up, and we're obliged to respond. Some reports get closed, but most get actioned.

I've obviously missed something. I've noticed the repetitive what fuel and tyre threads being locked. Last night the utterly bizarre Racechip thread was locked, but what else have I missed?

Granted I'm not as active on here since I changed my car (did I mention I had an M4 lol), but I do drop in regularly and there always seems to be locked threads, or I start getting into a thread and...locked. I'm simply just posing the question in the title.

As I've said I'm active on a few very big well known BMW forums and this never happens. This is a great Forum as I've said, and Marco has put across some points to me.

Potential for disagreement here. Lock this thread - QUICK!

I actually agree with the bloke who's in charge here - I hate forums where all you get is clever dick banter. Although I'm relatively new here, I like the balance - mainly technical/informative stuff, with a bit of 'community singing' allowed. I've not noticed too many threads being locked. One of mine was, but quite rightly, because it was duplicating an existing thread.

I agree with the locking down of threads, but it would be nice to see a post at the bottom from the moderator who locked it giving the reasons.

This means everybody knows why it was locked, and means it is less likely to happen again because people can see why it was locked in the future.

I see the what fuel threads get locked, I appreciate the reasons are probably that it has been discussed before, but putting a note on the bottom saying please use the search feature before locking would probably help any newbies not in the know.

Excellent point about the reasons.

Good point, well made. We'll start doing that from now on when possible.

And on that note, I'm moving this to the correct section....

I'm not rocking the boat, but I've had tens of people actually message me offline saying they agree with what I'm asking but won't post on here. I'm happy to be seen as the bellend here as I've got Teflon coated shoulders.
