M235i gone. Audi S4 now collected - PICS ADDED

Post by Gary_LB » Fri Sep 29, 2017 6:47 pm

So the trusty M235i has now gone and I have my new Audi S4 :)

As I mentioned previously this was a 'forced' change due to practicality requirements so whatever replacement I go for has large shoes to fill. So after looking at various options I decided the practicality, all weather ability and interior quality of the S4 was my preferred option. Having found a car in Audi stock that fit my specifications, just 3 weeks later the handover was complete!

Its early days however I am extremely happy so far. The S4 looks and sounds fantastic with an unrivaled interior. Initial impressions are that the steering does not feel quite as direct as the Beemer which is no surprise however the ride is far more compliant and composed. There is no obvious understeer due to the 60/40 rear bias Quattro on the S models which is a big improvement from generations I drove. The cabin is quieter with less tyre roar and wind noise however the engine gives an awesome sound when hitting 4krpm! I've gone no further up the rev range yet as am still running in but i expect it to sound epic and i would guess it must be louder than the M235i from outside. The MPG is lower and i expect this to remain the case due to the additional weight

I'll miss the M235i but unfortunately sometimes the heart must rule the head and so far the S4 seems a fair compromise. For those that are interested below are some pics

Nice looking Audi. It's that a black colour or dark grey? Also, if you want to mod it, you can start by lowering it, it's sitting too high imo

Like it, good colour choice :D

Whats the output stats bhp torque

Interior shots, will put my M2 to shame but that's a known factor Audi V BMW although my M3 was a lot swankier, shame about the creaks, buzzes, rattles etc etc etc

Cheers chaps it’s actually Manhattan Grey which I’d say is a shade or two darker than Mineral Grey. I’ve no interior pics but will take some today and upload later

It doesn’t sit as high as it looks from the photos but would certainly benefit from a drop of a couple of inches. I’d want to make sure I do not upset the ride in doing so though

In terms of power and torque it’s 354bhp with 369lb-ft torque but it’s aound 170kg heavier than the 2er. It’s diffi to tell which feels faster as I’ve not pushed her yet due to running in

The virtual cockpit is excellent especially when using sat nav and looks fantastic. The finish on the dash is also of an extremely high standard however having had 3 BMWs I am having to learn the controls, Multimedia system which will take some time!

The controls for switching off start/stop and changing driver modes are not as well positioned as BMW but these are minor niggles

That interior is something else, looks great. The 'virtual cockpit' sounds like a brilliant feature. Looks a bit more aggressive than the previous shape from the outside too.

Lovely car, but when will Audi learn how to manufacture a gear selector that doesn't look like a dogs dinner?!

It has a more aggressive stance as it sits slightly lower than the standard A4 and has 19” rims but it’s a sleeper which is what I was after so I’m happy

It’s actually pretty comfortable to use but not as good as the BMW shifter that’s for sure
