Yes the S4 has a 3.0 V6 Twin Scroll Turbo.

The RS4 has a 2.9 V6 Biturbo

(Presumably for emissions which is dumb)

The RS4 of course produces more power but with a remap the S4 is almost the same but with the bonus of being waaaay more understated.

Yeah I won't thrash it straight away, I'll do what the manual says apart from the odd blip or two!

I agree Gary. Quote me otherwise but I believe the S4 is one of the best all round cars in the world! And you can chuck dogs in the back of the Avant too! Extremely fast and definitely very practical. It just goes like a train! The virtual cockpit is also very impressive.

It definitely handles MILES better than previous gen Audis. I had a 10 min test drive and signed the paperwork immediately. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the sports differential is all about :)

With all the progress Audi has made with handling, I can only imagine just how refined the latest BMWs are.

My perfect two car garage would ideally be S4 Avant and BMW M3/911 Turbo
I couldn’t agree more. I needed one car that does everything and when working through my shortlist the S4 was the only car that ticked all the boxes. Generally the reviews are spot on when they say if you are choosing a car to live with for a few weeks you would choose something else but if it’s a car to live with every day it’s the Audi. This will be highlighted even more in the winter months

Yeah I've driven Quattro for 3 years now I don't think I could ever have a 2WD car again.

Even in completely wet stormy conditions you simply don't lose traction. I can't remember the last time I wheelspun. I had a JCW mini for a while to play with, just got bored of the constant throttle feathering to maintain traction. There is no point having a fast car if you simply can't put the power down.

Yeah it will be great in winter but don't forget....Quattro helps you move but it doesn't help you stop. Winter tyres make the car unbelievably competent in the snow.

I’m thinking back to my 4WD Scooby days and hoping the Quattro will be a similar experiences adverse conditions. As you say though you still need to drive to the conditions which always makes me chuckle as the first car I generally see in the snow on the back of a trailer is a 4x4 where someone has crashed thinking that 4WD can beat the laws of physics!

Winter tyres genuinely feel like you aren't even driving on snow or ice.

You can stop immediately, hardly any skidding at all. Handling is superb even in foot deep snow.

I drove to Switzerland twice last year in my 3.0TDI, it was -15 and extremely heavy snow both times. No problems at all, didn't wheelspin once. It was staggering how quickly we could stop on solid ice. It's mental that you can actually turn perfectly in thick snow.

Winters feel bad over +10 Celsius though. Really spongy and s**t under braking.

Also, the S4 is permanent 4WD, nothing like the Golf R or S3. The traction is unbelievable. You can launch the car full throttle in a storm and it simply doesn't spin up. :)

The different Quattro system is one of the reasons I chose the S4 over the S3 as I didn’t want the front bias feeling. Fair bit of rain here today and the car felt glued to the road!

Just wait til you launch it in the wet! INCREDIBLE!!

Even my diesel is savage off the line, but it does have a huge amount of torque after the remap. I like to pick on rear wheel drive cars when it's raining!

The V6 is a work of art even in the diesel form and yes you're right, one of the last opportunities to have a car with a bigger engine before the hybrids go totally mainstream.

I reckon the next RS4 will be a hybrid.

I’m yet to launch it properly in the dry let alone the wet lol. I imagine the torque isn’t as much as your diesel however I can certainly feel the additional torque vs my M235I. I’m not sure if it’s the additional torque, the 4WD or a mix of the two but the shove in the back is impressive so god only knows what it will be like after a remap!

Yeah torque only gets you so far in a diesel though, it quickly drops off and gets boring. The S4 is significantly more exhilarating and flexible in the way it drives. It feels a LOT quicker.

I think I've watched every single B9 S4 Avant video on YouTube, even the foreign ones I don't understand!! Lol don't have a delivery date yet!

There don’t seem to be as many S4 videos on YouTube as there are on other cars I was looking at as a large proportion turn out to be for th B8. Most of the detailed reviews are either US or German however it was these that sold me on the S Quattro system and they were right as I am still to witness any significant understeer, well no more than in the Beemer anyway

I’m new to the Audi side of things but Audi-sport.net seems pretty useful
