What a great car you have there, my dream is a 997 Carrera S. Maybe in another 5-10 years...

In the meantime, keep us posted about your machine!!!
Thanks Peter. Hope you get one in the end as they are beginning to look like very good value for money these days with little depreciation and 2007+ models are pretty robust.

If I can keep the Mlite for a few years, I might be able to convince the Mrs we reallreally need one! Hehe

I constantly monitor prices and if anything, they seem to be crawling upwards at the moment!

JapanRed's new Steed

Post by Japanred120d » Wed Dec 16, 2015 11:06 pm

Had a nice 150 mile round trip drive on the back roads of Lincolnshire today for a trip out to the coast. Have to say it was damp and muddy throughout with a lot of dirt on the roads from tractors etc.

Here's the result - my dirty bit on the side Image

She's currently sat in the garage in this used and abused state, patiently waiting for the next day of debauchery.

Happy motoring chaps.

Thanks Rob. How's the Cayman? Have you got a thread on here?

Managed to get to the coast again today. The road up to Whitby is fantastic, Matt (Roshambo) will vouch for that. Only the one pic this time. Hopefully will get chance to give it a well earned wash tomorrow.

JapanRed's new Steed

Post by Japanred120d » Sun Feb 14, 2016 5:15 pm

1 year update:

I've had the 911 one year exactly today; picked her up as a nice Valentine's Day treat to myself last year Image

I thought I would write a paragraph or two about ownership and how I feel about the car now the honeymoon period is well and truly over.

Well what can I say, I still love it as much as I did on the day I picked it up. Being a weekend car, I still make excuses to take it for a drive, still smile every time I turn the key, and still grin ear-to-ear every time the rev counter passes 4000 rpm. I even still enjoy cleaning it. I've enjoyed the trips out and about that we have had over the past 12 months, and have even managed to pack a weeks worth of clothing for me and the missus into it, which shows just how versatile a sports car this is. Ive had bags and bags of fun in it, and scared myself (and passengers) once or twice in the process too Image.

The car has been used over the winter, which is a big plus-point for me, as I almost bought a TVR which would not have enjoyed the greasy, grit-covered roads the same as the Porsche does.

Granted, many of today's hot hatches would keep the 911 on its toes and within their sight in a straight drag race, but the place that this car excels is on B roads, both in the wet and dry. In the right hands (I'm no racing driver) this car would be a weapon which would leave said hot hatches wondering where it went.

In terms of running costs and problems the car has been great. It's never not started first time (I doubt I could say the same about the TVR) and its never thrown up any unexpected bills. On a steady run at 75mph it averages 29mpg. My average for the year is approx 19-21mpg, although on last years "Northern romp" I burnt through over £70 worth of fuel in 70 miles, averaging 9mpg Image.

The car has cost me a grand total of £1478 in the last 12 months, made up of the following;
£246 Rear tyre (post puncture)
£49 Oil
£12 Antifreeze
£112 New battery
£120 Oil service
£49 MOT
£505 tax
£385 insurance

For a car of it's standing, I think these costs are peanuts, especially because depreciation is unlikely to be a major factor. I reckon my mates new Peugeot 207 GTI will cost him more over the next 3 years.

So all in all I am 100% happy with the car, although I still have a niggle for some alcantara & an exhaust upgrade at some point.

Ive not taken any pictures recently but decided to make a short semi-cold start video this afternoon. The car had been run earlier in the day but had had an hour to cool down, and I didn't rev above 3,500 rpm.

Looking forward to the next drive Image

Nice round up Rob :)

Glad to hear you're still enjoying it as much as ever. These Porsches really are a delight to drive and own!

Have you got any long drives planned this year?

Brilliant!

Was the battery linked to the hesitation during firing her up when warm?

Thanks Rob. I can only imagine how much you two are having with the Cayman on your long jaunts.

We've no long trips planned to be honest mate, it would be nice to get up to Scotland for a long weekend but we've a few holidays already in the pipeline so depends if we've got enough leave at work. Failing that, I'll be happy to keep doing what we did last year; taking it to the coast and moors for trips out in the sun. I'll also be attending a few meets with Leeds supercar club, and not forgetting that the BabyBMW Northern romp is one of the highlights of the year for me (although I hear that you two came make it which I'm a bit gutted about).

Thanks mate. It does get used as often as possible.

Yes Rob. Had no issues whatsoever since. Really strange as I can't for the life of me understand why it would ever struggle to start when warm but not cold.
