Good choice. Despite the constant whining from some people on here, please do keep us updated as to how you found it compared to the M240. I'm contemplating going the same route as you to get something with more involvement, can't decide whether I buy a megane trophy and sell M135i, or keep it and buy a cheaper track-day car.

Passenger can sit in the back if they find them uncomfortable

Rather keep a complete set, however there may be some recaros for sale on rsmegane.com, have a look. I remember some coming for sale, not so long ago.
Do you run your car on the usual unleaded or the super duper juice btw?

I use to use normal BP unleaded but changed to V Power. Haven't really noticed a difference, but for the sake of about 10p a litre, it doesn't bother me.

Quick question to everyone from a less experienced enthusiast:

Are mods (in general) value accretive? i.e. can you get your money back when you sell your car?

I have already identified shortfalls in that Megane (before even taking delivery) and am flirting with the idea of adding a rev matching auto-blip module to start with....

Definitely not - you will never get your money back with mods if sold with the car. At most, you can buy used items and then sell them off separately by returning the car to stock - but even then it would be tough to make your money back

Got you. But then you are losing on manpower (mechanic's fee) to install and uninstall again !!

Does the car become more attractive to buyers at least?

Some people are put off by mods as they think the car might have been hammered.

You're best stripping the car to stock and selling separately.

I've always gone with the approach labour costs will be swallowed by me (or the seller) but you can sell the parts for approx 60% of new cost. Sometimes though people just don't want it! I've got a few e92 bits I can't give away!

99% of buyers would much prefer to buy a completely stock vehicle. Myself included, despite the fact I mod the crap out of mine. One K&N, and alarm bells instantly start ringing in my swede.

The occasional person will appreciate an LSD, high quality suspension, etc, but won't usually pay extra for it.

If you're going to mod, I'd try to stick to high quality sought-after parts which are easy to 'part out' when you come to sell the car. If you can get them 2nd hand in the first place, all the better!

This +1

I always look for stock cars but then end up modding them. The funny thing is a car can look stock but may have been modded.

As for value, you will never make anything on mods unless you sell them on. I spent about £2500 on mods on my old Focus ST. When I sold it I paid someone £300 to put it back to stock and then sold the bits for £1200 so clawed back £900 in total. I then PX'd the car for my old 120d as a std car. :)

Thank you all.

No auto-blip for the Megane then.
