E82 Heated steering wheel retrofit possibility

Post by --help » Sat Jan 03, 2015 10:51 am

I recently bought an E82 from 2008. Really pleased with it, has heated seats but does not have a heated steering wheel. I did some searching but only found one page where some people talked about this. It seems this was option #248, rare option apparently, but more i cannot find about it.

Does anybody know if it is possible to retrofit a heated steering wheel in my car? Or in E80-series in general?

It wasn't a UK option on the E Series, iirc.

I think you're right that S248A is the optional extra code.

Yes it seems like it, but when i check realOEM it only says about some options "S248A=Yes" meaning that the steering/option CAN work with it (i guess, correct me if i'm wrong) but there is no real retrofit option. What would i need, i cannot find any documentation or information that explains some about this.

Does your car have 61319169750 slip rings?

You'd need switch 61319143639 too.

When i check 61319169750 i see that it does not support a rain sensor. For sure my car has that. When i check for other slip rings, it seems that none of the heated rings support a rain sensor?

I can't find one with a Rain Sensor and Heated either, maybe it uses the same connections?

I've even checked the 3er slip rings, so I guess you're out of luck. :(

Are the 1 and 3-series slip rings/steering wheels the same you mean? Weird that it is not possible, sounds like a challenge to find one ...

Most 1 and 3 series parts are interchangeable, they're basically the same car (although the 1er is 2" shorter in the rear footwell).

Of course, bmw wouldn't be bmw if the production date matters ... when i look up parts from 2010 and later there is a possibility for heated steering! Look at the realOEM site and see that there are numerous options that have the heated option, i however do not see the slip rings anywhere. Anybody knows where i should find those?

Do you have a rain sensor perhaps as well? And do you know the part numbers? 8)

Well i don't know what '59 for example means, not from US. Not even close; Netherlands. And the issue is, as in my initial post, that i cannot find the part numbers on realoem ... So RichIbizaSport, do you have some more information for me? Thanks! :)

I can't remember what the site is but you can call up your vehicle spec ( RichIbizaSport) and if you can do that it might give you the option code for it and work out the parts off that??

That would indeed be helpful, can you share the production code of your car RichIbizaSport please?
