130i new specifications, model choice for buying

Can't decide on what factory or dealer options to go with?
Not sure what a specific option does?

130i new specifications, model choice for buying

Postby Flatter4 » Sat Dec 03, 2016 11:58 am

Hi all,

I've searched the site and read hundreds of posts - all trying to gain a good knowledge of the 130 model - leading up to purchasing one.
I'm sure the info's in these pages, but perhaps someone can help by summarising for me.
Key things I'm after are 5 door, M-sport suspension, cruise control and black leather or half leather sets. Recommendations would be gratefully received.
Here's my guesses, let me know if I'm wrong:

>> SE = Base model ("standard equpment" ?). Will only have what I want if specified as options when the car was built.
>> LE = "Limited Edition". With lots of goodies, leather / heated seats / lights etc etc
>> E87 is the designation for the 5 door 1 series to 2011 (the one I'm after)
>> N52 is the designation for the 3 litre engine
>> M-sport = firmer suspension package, available as an option on all models, and standard on some (which ones?)
>> 18" wheels. Which models were these standard on? I read on one post that all M-sports had 18" wheels, but I don't think this is correct?
>> Some time around 2006 there seems to be a change in the dash top to allow I-drive to be fitted. If not spec'ed then there is a storage tray in the dash?
Were there any other key developments for the model, a rear axle / chassis brace?....?

Thanks.

I'll just correct a few things

N52 engine for 3.0 but..
2006-2009: 195kW (265 PS)
2009-2012: 190kW (258 PS)

M Sport suspension - stiffer suspension, former ride, lower ride height.
M Sport: MSport suspension standard
SE: MSport suspension optional

18" wheels
MSport: 208m 18" wheels standard
SE: 141m 17" wheels standard

Chassis brace
Standard on E81 - 3 door models
Not fitted on E87 - 5 door models
The brace can be ordered and fitted, see thread below for more info:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=91573

Dash top storage - unsure about this. I had an E87 LCI 2009 120d. It had the dash storage as part of the (493) storage compartment package. The 2006 E87 130i I'm buying has no dash storage.

I find the 130i brochure link below helpful:

LE's were all 3 doors (and only 4 seats). They didn't have heated seats, lumbar support, USB, etc. Nice wheels though.

Most 130i's are E87 M Sport's, so you'r basically in luck. :)
Silver F21 M135i - ManBox - HK - Adaptive + Eibach Pro's - BBS CH-R's - 245/35 Goodyear Asym 3's - BMWP Drexler LSD - TMC Piggyback - M4 LCA's - aFe Dry Filter

marco is correct, all LE's are E81 models, which means they are all LCI

LE's also all have as standard:
factory xenons
chrome trim surrounding windows (I hate that sh!t)
electric memory seats
iDrive
261m alloys (unsure if 17" or 18" alloys)
Bluetooth voice prep
Unique paint colour (a midnight metallic black, which has a purple hue)

You need a type 110 AGM battery, even ECP/Halfords might stock them. Don't forget to have the new one coded to the car.

Don't forget to have the new one coded to the car. Do you have Carly?

marco I'm all confused :? I put in the car and these batteries came up on ECP. Which one is correct?
http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-battery

Does it still need to be coded if the car doesn't have Start/Stop and it's a Pre-LCI?

I don't think the seller has Carly.. he'll be sorting the battery before I collect next weekend.

If they don't have Carly or similar, they have to go to BMW or a BMW indy.

oh dear.. I thought the battery might be cheaper and no coding required as the car is pre-LCI and does not have start stop feature.

Thanks.. I will let him know.

You want a sealed battery, it lives in the cabin with you!!!

Seller has confirmed the current battery did not need coding to the car. This means the car doesn't have an IBS.
Will fitting an AGM battery be plug and play?

It didn't need it, or he didn't do it? Sounds like there's a good reason battery #2 didn't last very long.

They all need at least registering, and proper coding if changing size or type.
