It didn't need it, or he didn't do it? Sounds like there's a good reason battery #2 didn't last very long.

They all need at least registering, and proper coding if changing size or type.

I've sent him a screenshot of this thread. I don't know if it's a lead battery currently in the boot. The mechanic that did the pre-inspection said the battery needs replacing as it's only charging 58% and 11.8V.

Not sure what he'll do but the battery will be replaced before next weekend.

Wonderful - thanks for the brochure "roundasapound", it's a fantastic find and helps explain many of my questions (including your wheel codes!).
I think I'll print it off and stick it to the fridge door for easy reference!

But... what does LCI stand for?

Also can someone take the brochure and place it as a 'stickie'? This sort of stuff should be at the top of the page.

Cheers.

LCI = Life Cycle Impulse

(BMW lingo for 'Face lift to boost sales').

No probz..
I also find this link helpful in identifying the various 1er alloy wheels: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/

Cruise Control is an easy retrofit. You can buy the part for £80-100 on eBay and then fit/code yourself (check the 'how to' section) or get a BMW Indy to do it. My last car 120d I had Munich Legends fit and code the cruise control for £60.

BR Diagnostics (forum sponsor aka Wibbles) can do this retrofit.
He's in Geordie land I think.

Another great resource on the wheels roundasapound. Thanks. I love the fact that someone has created a website just to help the likes of me - I looked for the "buy it now option" and there was nothing to buy, just great information!

.... so how do I know from outside the car whether it's pre or post LCI?

Here you go, rear lights:

Internally the LCI has different door cards and a different dash trim. Personally I didn't notice much difference to the interior going from LCI to Pre-LCI.

Useful thread here about Pre-LCI vs LCI dashboard differences:

Mine has electric lumbar and the CCC system has USB under the armrest, not that those are deal breakers.

Electric inflateable side bolsters, or electric lumbar?

marco.. I have now ordered the K Line coding and diagnostics cable with software.

I contacted Munich Legends and they agreed with you that whatever the battery it needs coding.

I also contacted BMW, provided them with full VIN , year and model of the car. See the reply below

If there's one thing BMW know nothing about, it's BMW's. They make very nice coffee though.

Ask them if M3 LCA's, TS, ARB's are compatible, if you fancy a giggle. If you're lucky, you can actually get their heads to explode.

 I believe you marco.

Their reply was as useful as a chocolate teapot. I mean, what kind of bloody response was that?! They would've been better saying they don't know. Eeeediats!!
