new car, new timing chain, burning stereo question!!!!

Post by danboy74 » Thu Oct 26, 2017 10:36 pm

Hi guys

GOT HER BACK !!!! just collected it and it now runs so quiet, The dreaded timing chain!!!(so the chain was really noisy !!!) so should be all good now.

Still one burning question though, this is stereo related.

So a single slot in the dash, the car has IDrive. subs or speakers under the front seats, The single slot has 1-8 number buttons.but no display (all stereo/radio display is on Idrive Screen)

my issue is this, if the satnav disc is in then you can't play a cd, because obviously the nav disc is in there, someone did say that maybe once the nav disc is loaded then it might be ok to remove and play a cd, however if you are using the sat nav and you remove the disc it kills the satnav and just says re-insert the sat nav disc.

i have checked absolutely everywhere in the car for a cd changer and there 100% isn't one!!!!

so did BMW really make some of these cars that couldn't play a cd whilst the sat nav disc was in??? really!!!!!!!!!

any help would be gratefully received (2008) 123d N47 engine E87

Thanks loads in advance!!

Hi Mate, we used a good trusted garage that has had loads of 1 series timing chain experience,.

so they have developed a way to do it without taking the engine out but instead going in from the back removing the gearbox etc.
i also had a rear wheel bearing done at the same time (which aren't cheap either) the total bill was 1040 including vat, also had a courtesy car for a week, so all good. it now runs as smooth as silk.

just annoyed with THE STEREO !!!!!!! lol

That said I'm sure he charged me what he needed however he may have done it a little cheaper as i have put bloody thousands through his garage, (we had a range rover sport!!! say no more)lol but a top trustworthy guy, i couldn't recommend highly enough, (South cambs / beds border area)

kind regards

dan
