USB Port Product guide

I got the random feature working by selecting the "all artists" on the menu, then selecting "random" this seems to work across all albums.

Just taken delivery of my Y cable so tried my iPod.

TBH I can't see any advantage over a USB stick as it appears selecting "Random Album" sorting on the iPod has no effect.

My problem with this is that whenever you change playlists it will always go through them in the same order unless you select random on the HU which then plays all tracks completely at random rather than random albums.

Anybody confirm my finding, and have any solutions.

This is one of those thinks that really annoys me. Why can't anyone of the car manufacturers get this right, every time I try and use my phone, iPad or USB memory stick as my music source only some of the features of the head unit work correctly, why can't they just build a head unit and interface that works with all input sources and has all the functions.

Now I realise if I choose to just feed my 3.5 mm audio output into the jack in point I am never going to control anything from the head unit as you have no control connection but surely if you have a USB connection/iPod connection then surely all the features should work. I know you can buy head units with USB, bluetooth a2dp, aux in, sat nav and iPod control/ interface that hass all the head unit functions working with all sources but there like £800 last time I looked for a standard din with flip up touch screen and additional gps module about another 200 quid.

Sorry rant over it just annoys the living **** out of me.

I just want 1 head unit that does all the functions with all my possible digital audio inputs.

Hello everyone,

I am trying to install the Bluetooth on my BMW 1 Series 120D.
I have gathered the following parts: Bluetooth antenna, MULF2, USB/Audio port and microphone.

What I have left is the harness or loom which are parts numbers (as of BMW parts list):
61 12 0 444 603 Retrofit wiring harness
61 12 0 445 328 Retrofit wiring harness.

Is there a way to buy the harness only somewhere?

I have tried the local BMW dealer but they told me I have to buy the whole kit: USB/Audio Interface SA 6FL Retrofit 65 41 0 445 465 which cost around £200 plus... :( I don't need all this since I have bought the parts off the net but I only need the wires to complete the kit.

Can someone help me get the harness or give me some advices? Your help will be appreciated. :o

Cheers

It seems that a USB stick is a cheaper option than an iPhone connection for music playback.
Particularly as I am likely to upgrade to an iPhone 5 (or beyond) during the life of this car and therefore would have to buy a 2nd connection cable.

As I have all my music in iTunes, how should I export it to a USB stick for optimal use in a BMW? (I have a new one coming in Jan and it is the first one I have had with a USB port)

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Well I answered my own question once I got the car.

I simply copied the contents of my iTunes directory to a USB stick. Plugged it into USB port in car. And it worked. Simple!

Old thread I know but a relevant question!

I assume the file format is FAT32 and not FAT for USB sticks? Also what is the maximum that the car can see?

Just got my f20 and got pretty close to it working how I want with my phone (galaxy s3). Connected the usb and was able to browse for music BUT couldn't browse to the memory card where all my music is stored only to the internal memory

I can't see any Bluetooth streaming option anywhere and think it's only available on the more expensive head unit. Normal Bluetooth phone calls work fine.

Do I have any other options apart from copying all my music to a usb stick and plugging in directly?
Would be a shame to go back to the aux cable...

Quick query if possible?

2013 F21 - USB loaded with around 2500 songs. Seems to reload on each start up! Is this normal or because I have not given idrive enough time to fully load up?

:o My F20 116i plays flac files off the USB port ( 32 GB flash drive connected ). Just tried it on a whim after reading about it in one of the 3 series forums.
