The fibre optics are required for the combox to work - new cables can be bought at your dealer.

The combox will give a full speed USB, BT streaming, BMW Apps (with the right CIC firmware or FSC code).

Thanks Wibbles, so that black connector doesn't actually connect to anything? So i can snap and place the combox under the armrest? that makes life easier :) does that mean i can buy a armrest base plate from BMW?

I have fibre optic cables but they have no connecting ends, they need to be cut and connected, apparently a waste of time if i dont have the right tools to do it, better off buying them already made and done.

can i get something like this?

One more thing does the AUX input connect into the combox aswell? i already have this as standard on my car already wired in into my BHU, can i just leave this as it is?

Almost there just want to make sure before i start pulling everything apart i know exactly what to do!

Also going to need someone to remote code all of it!

Silly me, you meant the black connector is for the snap in baseplate for a mobile phone!

You don't need to worry about the aux wiring. - leave it going to the HU.

You can add DAB as a separate unit to any system, but you can't beat an integrated unit.

It's all down to budget in the end - better not browse on here too often then.
You were right redwizard i browsed too much! Just bought some powerfold mirrors and the switch! Now goto to retrofit them, does the madness ever stop?

 :P

i'm attempting to make my own harness linking the idrive controller, CIC screen and Comxbox into one harness to save me cutting into any of the original loom.

Am i on the right track? Its so long to find and search for all the info, wish there was a HOW TO DO IT in a pdf format somewhere with everything in it.

Also which of the Combox wiring diagram suits my needs? or is suited to the combox i have?
Also i asked this before can i place the combox under my passenger seat or somewhere in the dashboard i.e behind the glovebox or something instead of in the boot?

Now because i'm making my own harness how does the cic connect to my ecu/obd/canbus. As in how do i get car information/PDC connected to it?

Thanks

oh and one more thing!

The USB output on the CIC head unit does that need to go into the glovebox? From what i gather this would need this part:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-USB-CONEC ... Sw9N1V2sgq

So a usb on the centre console and a usb port in the glovebox?

I know i'm asking a great deal of questions, thanks for all the advice and help.

I can't help you with much, but the USB port thing I can. My CIC has a usb port tucked up in the top left corner of the glovebox, and then theres the one in the centre console as well. So you are right. I have the same options as that drawing 6FL and 6NF

Can anyone tell me how to wire the combox?

pins 12&25 are for the microphone.

Is that all i need, do i need to connect anything else?

Success :o) managed to get the screen installed, did a mock up fitment and got it working :spotman:

Haven't finished just yet, took quite a bit of time to cut away inside the cage area to get it to get the cic to fit snug, thank goodness for the dremel!

Last few bits to do is combox install, tidy up and code it to the car.
