Progress

Post by git-r2 » Mon Oct 30, 2017 1:39 pm

As mentioned another set of shoes for the duckling are on their way, hopefully to be fitted tomorrow.

I’ve also had a weak moment.......

What happens when you have a drunken conversation with a Car mate:

https://www.racechip.co.uk/shop/bmw/1-s ... 450nm.html

This should be with me in a few days :) :)

Snetterton is booked for Saturday 4th so I will have perfect opportunity to try it along with it’s new track tyres.

Best lap so far is 2:16.

Any guesses at the new lap time??

That's an interesting take on tuning. Why that and not the much cheaper and tried and tested boxes?

Think that’s a good guess, it has more negative camber now and will also have more power and possibly better tyres. We shall see :)

Mainly for peace of mind. This chip comes with an 8k warranty to cover engine/drivetrain, also apparently is good for further modifications down the line. It has a 30 day return policy if I don’t like it.
Also it’s very easy to fit and remove, claims to make more mpg, biggest chip tuning company.Blah blah!

A friend put it that “it’s the iPhone of tuning” if that makes sense?

Mapping is something I’ve had a lot of experience of. And generally that hasn’t been good. I’ve found that a car never drives as well as the stock map. The map on my GTR for example has been ok, not blown up despite years of abuse on track at double the factory output on stock internals, but doesn’t drive anything like as nicely as a standard car.

Some of the cars I’ve driven that have been remapped by “experts” in the field are laughable. Yes it makes 600bhp and 600 lb/ft but you really wouldn’t be any quicker than a stock car because of the the muppet mapper that has mapped it. And of course it’s cost you many k’s.

I’ve found that experts in motorsport don’t really work on road cars like ours. UK has the best motorsport knowledge in the world but it doesn’t filter down to us at grass roots sadly.

Below are some more vids from Brands.

Fantastic bit of sport with the M3. It was in another league though. 53’s on the same westlake tyres that i’ve Just bought but with a bit of aero and circa 1200kg/380 bhp. Driver is a good lad, sent me the vids and may even have a beer with him on Sunday as he’s really near where I live 8)

Great position of camera, can see the ugly 1 in the mirror...

Have you seen this thread? Some not so great dyno runs on a Racechip 7 series.
I hear what you're saying about remapping, especially on an R32 GT-R; I wouldn't have a clue who to trust.
Luckily there are quite a few good mappers for the R35 and mine always drove much better than stock.

For the M-Lites, most people on here say that the stock ECU is so good at maintaining AFR, the tuning boxes are at least as good as a custom remap.

My cousin took his M135i to DMS and was happy with their remap which produced 416hp on their own Dyno Dynamics RR.

For this car I prefer the sound of a tuning box as you can take it off easily if needed and there have been no reports I've seen of engine damage running a JB4 etc.

Yes I saw the thread I think where Jason from chiptune posts the graphs of the 730 d. They’re crap. There are a couple of good reviews though below it.

Mine turned up today, amazing really as I only ordered it yesterday and it comes from Germany.

Instructions were crap, there was no picture of where the cam sensor is on a M135i, took me a while to figure out where it was but got there eventually.

Initially I didn’t plug it in properly so got drivetrain error come up and engine light. The app wouldn’t connect either. After connecting the cam sensor properly it all worked fine and lights disappeared.
I’ve only driven it to the tyre shop and back so far but it easily broke traction in second the first time I put my foot down. Probably because of cold tyres, but initial thought is that it feels quicker.

You can switch between efficiency/sport/race Via the phone app.

Looking forward to seeing what difference it makes on Saturday :)

Also got the westlakes fitted today. Pretty chunky looking tyre.

I'm not keen on the fact that they make the car look less like an M-Lite, but in black, they're not a million miles away from the 719Ms on my Shadow Edition...
What size fronts did you put on? Would they clear the arches with M4 LCAs? ETA, oh I've just noticed they are the same size as the OEM M-Lite wheels! I thought you were posting about them because the fronts were wider, hence allowing wider front rubber?

Did you notice much braking improvement with the MPBBK?
