120d (E87) performance mods

Post by mr_kpt » Mon Nov 27, 2017 5:33 pm

Hi,

Recently bought a decent, low mileage (47k) E87 120d (N47 engine), pretty much fully loaded (with full leathers, 18inch upgrades , lowered suspension etc. ).. I'm now looking to make some performance mods as I know these 120s have some potential...

Currently looking at a remap by Celtic Tuning (claim to take it up 233bhp) but struggling to find reviews for this map? Has anyone had experience with this map? Also, can anyone recommend other performance upgrades - not looking for huge gains, but reasonable improvements in addition to the remap?

Thanks
E87 120d (N47) M-Sport

Best bang for your buck is the remap, although 233 sounds like pub figures on a happy dyno. If you get anywhere close to a genuine 220bhp I'd be very pleased.

After that, the law of diminishing returns kicks in hard.

If you're after better lap times, I'd be spending my money on tyres+brakes, then suspension.

Thanks! ... yeahh most re-mappers are offering claims around 210-215 ... so it's strange how Celtic can somehow manage 233bhp - they're economy re-ma; offers around 210 i think, which sounds a lot more realistic. But tbh, they offer a 14-day money back gurantee, so I'm tempted to test it on another dyno to see what the real output is

I've read a lot about the stress on other parts ...Celtic advised that there's no need to upgrade any parts... would you suggest the same?

The rest of the 120d is strong enough, assuming it's all in good condition and sensibly maintained (things like diff oil & gearbox oil).

I’ve literally just had my 120d m sport mapped managed a healthy 200bhp 310lbft.

That was there performance tune so economy map would be much less

I had my 2006 120d remapped last year by Celtic tuning, they have transformed it , so much more power, worth every penny Image
