Some new M/// parts for my 130i

Post by markhurley » Tue Jun 23, 2015 8:41 pm

After doing the front lower control arms i thought i would also upgrade the rear end as i feel that it can sometimes feel a bit elastic , and I'm glad to report that the rear feels a lot better now another positive mod just need a diff now and she is complete !

I'm guessing this required a re-alignment? If so, which values did you use?

Are they the Powerflex subframe inserts that I spy? Did they make much difference? I'm considering fitting them when I get my B12 kit installed in a few weeks?

Pound for pound the inserts are one of the best mods they stop the rear end floating around and they are easy to install , re the geo i see no reason how these affect it as they have no adjustment unlike the lower arms, they are also the same dimensions as the old ones just lighter and have better bushes however my car is long over due a little geo session so i will be getting it done this weekend and i will post up my settings.

Also I'm over brands on the 1st of july for a little shakedown session to see it all these mods make any real world difference lol

I know so tempting and cheap ! think I will hold out for the quaffe diff I've been quoted a good price from birds and I can't be arsed with messing about with the prop , just need to finish the building works at home as it is one massive cash drain and it don't leave much money for the car

Mark do you have a build thread for your car? Just wondered what order you have fitted the suspension parts or whether they all went on together? I have the full B1 kit on my 130i which transformed the car. At some point I am looking to fit the M3 front arms, M3 rear arms and full Powerflex diff and subframe bushes. I just wondered from your experience what sort of change each of these makes with the B1 kit? Lots of people have fitted the M3 parts and bushes but not many as step changes especially with the B1 kit. When I spoke to Kevin Bird last year about the M3 parts he said it improved the car but that the B1 kit gets you 90% of the way to perfect set up for the 1 series. He said if he had to replace his 130i he'd debate whether he would refit the M3 parts, would you agree?
Thanks for your help

Depends on what you want the car for I suppose, I wanted a fast and comfortable rd car which is capable on track I've not changed exhausts or airboxs as I'm to old for all that noise lol
Here's a list of the bits I've done and the order of importance/most improved over standard

1, birds b1 suspension kit £1000
2, power flex inserts £80
3, m135i 4 pots £600
4, m3 suspension parts front and rear £400
5, anti roll bar kit £325
6, bmw performance strut brace £250
( the above prices are just a guide )
7, (still waiting for diff ) then the list might change ?

That don't include the ditching of the run flat tyres as that was the first thing I done

Can you PM what sort of price you can get them and which part numbers it includes? I have been debating buying the M3 parts by TRW from Amazon and then buying rear trailing arms and toe arms from ECS in the States...alternatively ECS do a package for the whole lot. With the exchange rates at the moment there's not much in it. Your price might sway the decision!
