370mm M performance Calipers - 125i

Post by Mike_RS » Fri May 27, 2016 12:13 pm

I've been swaying towards the 130i carriers but I found a bargain set of brand new M performance callipers suited for 370mm discs which should look amazing and give me some awesome stopping power!Planning to track the car a few times so a brake upgrade will be a welcomed addition!

I'm sourcing the discs and backing plates but I had a couple of questions about the other parts i'll need for the install.

Will the sensors on my stock calipers fit the M performance calipers if I re-use them?

If I order a set of braided hoses for the F30 will these fit my E82?

Does anybody know anywhere in the North west who can code the brake cylinder to adjust the brake bias?

I'll get some before and after pictures when they are finally on :D

Yes (but don't try to reset an old sensor), yes (but why not E8x braided lines?), BMW possibly, and looking forward to seeing those pics. :)

Thanks, So all the sensors/ hoses etc. use the same connections regardless of model?

Does that mean my existing brake hoses will fit the M performance calipers? Not that I'm keeping them.

I'll pick up some new sensors too if reusing the sensor will cause me problems..

I remember seeing a post where BMW charged somebody around £230 iirc for setting the bias, so I was hoping there would be an independent somewhere with a good rep and low prices :D

Sensors will be fine, hoses as well maybe although you would need to check once caliper is mounted to be safe , on the M135/340mm setup ive fitted on my 130 the stock hoses were fine, although im not sure the extra distance out the 370mm caliper sits would be ok or not and as your on 125i smaller brakes again it might be a problem so best to check it all on car make sure hose fits nice and not to tight etc.

I wouldn't worry about the coding ive not done mine and it feels fine, if you do want it done then speak to Wibbles on here he can do it and is in Newcastle area so not a million miles away.

The 370mm is a good set up (obvioulsy it's used on the M3 etc) and I think there is enough space under 18's but as a minimum you'll need spacers and you may or may not get them on - I'm not entirely sure who has done it.

Also the discs are eye wateringly expensive for standard items as BMW only supply them.

But it'll be a good set up, just a couple of points to consider as I've looked at this myself.

He is, but I think the EX offsets foul the bigger calipers as the FX offsets are slighty lower on the fronts.

I'm just spouting stuff I vaguely remember when I looked at it, but I'd have to dig back through all the old threads I found to actually find factual info.

I've noticed a company called Zimmerman have started offering discs 370mm X 30. Does anybody know if these are any good quality wise? Is this a case of buy cheap buy twice??

They are nearly half the price of BMW and the come in blank, drilled & slotted and drilled. From what I've seen so far they cast the drill holes whilst making the discs which prevents weakening the disc, the same method Brembo use. I personally love the look of drilled discs and I wouldn't have the "whoosh" sound the Dimpled/ slotted M performance discs produce... People say drilled discs are prone to cracking but surely that only happens in extreme circumstances?

Any thoughts?

Zimmerman should be fine, if a little heavy compared to OEM.

Fully drilled discs can crack out if they get a bit warm, but dimpled should be much stronger.

Also running F3x 4 pots / 370mm M Perfornance discs on a E91.

Like the E8x, the sensors & lines are plug & play.

I fitted F3x backing plates from the M Performance brake kit for extra cooling, direct fit once 1 extra hole is drilled into the plate!

Good luck!

I have Zimmerman discs on my 340mm brembo setup, not had an issue witht hem at all.

i got slotted and dimpled ones. The zimmerman ones are not drilled right through as per the pics look, just dimpled.

Correct and I tried E series OEM style 195's and they will need 3-5mm spacer to clear calipers whether its 340mm and 370mm dia discs.

Thanks for all the replies!

So far I've ordered a set of 135i braided hoses, 370mm F30 backing plates and 135i wear sensors. Calipers should be here Wednesday and I've decided to be controversial on the disc choice.. I went for ZimmerMann drilled discs :P which should look awesome behind the wheels.

After doing research the last few days it seems the cracking issues are on earlier versions of drilled discs, the holes were larger and closer together. The drilled discs now appear to have smaller holes spread further apart and as somebody mentioned they are cast into the disc which further strengthens them. ZimmerMann actually give a 2 year warranty on the discs for peace of mind so this swayed my decision.

Looking forward to assembling the full kit ready for fitting in a few weeks :D I'll take plenty of pictures for you guys ;)
