Well today i received the second instalment of my brake kit and they look bloody awesome! The Discs, Backing plates and sensors arrived and they have given me an idea of how humongous this set-up will be! :D

I have a slight problem with the backing plates as one looks completely different from the other! When i ordered the parts on Genuine Auto Parts it said 34116792237 (Left backing plate) is no longer available and it had been replaced with 34-11-6-872-081 which now it’s arrived doesn't have such an aggressive air scoop in comparison to the right side (34116792238).

Does anybody know if this is correct, I don't want to install odd backing plates if I'm honest? Why would they discontinue only the left plate??

Enjoy the brake porn below ;)

I apologise from bringing back this old post, but i am currently about to tackle the front and rear brakes on my 125i and found this thread.

The backing plate is what i wanted to ask, i am looking for that F30 style upgrade, the original 34116792237 with the big scoop. It is no longer available and has been replaced with a smaller scoop/almost non scoop version. Did you at least get around finding the left side one to match?

Currently looking at installing these myself, but can not find parts or even the older numbers.

Thank you.

Much appreciated.

Are you certain that these are the correct ones? (just double checking)

I managed to find a large scoop version from a German seller, they shipped it to the UK for me... I don't think it's possible to find the larger scoop versions anymore unfortuantly.. i actually sold my previous 125i with the backing plates as I didn't have any standard plates to put back on.. I wish I had them for my 135i!

I have the feeling, that they are all replaced with the non scooped versions as well.

I wouldnt worry about the scoop in backplate unless doing serious trackwork, even then you would remove them and fit a proper duct anyhows.

Danny_Boy wrote:So what's actually hitting what? Are the calipers hitting the inside of the spokes of the wheel or are they hitting that actual flat surface of the wheel?

As with a 12mm spacer, I can't see how they'd hit the spoke at all, I only ran a 5mm spacer on my 340's and even then I reckon I could of ran a 3.

Sounds like the pad weights are the problem and they do stick out a huge way, drilling them out would probably solve your issues. Or even grinding them down a bit.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I know for certain the lugs on the brake pads are touching the barrel of the wheels as the paint on the alloys was gouged when the wheel bolts were tightened up. The face of the wheels have plenty of clearance with the spacers. From what I could see the top of the caliper was touching the barrel of the wheel too, so the caliper itself will probably need to be machined down. Does anybody know where would do this?

I was short on time and so frustrated by everything that went wrong on the day, I took them off fairly quickly after realising they wouldn't fit. I'll put them back on next weekend and take the pads out and see if the wheel spins freely. Then hopefully I'll have a better idea of how much clearance I'll need.

For the brief time I had them on they did look absolutely awesome behind the wheels! :D

Did you ever get these to fit under your 18” alloys ? Or did you have to go for larger alloys ?

They didn't fit unfortuantly, I sold them and bought the Yellow BMW Performance 6 pot callipers in the end.

Ah that’s good to know, I was about to make the same mistake and buy a set of the 370mm calipers
