Best Exhaust upgrade for M240i

Post by AndyH1313 » Fri Mar 31, 2017 1:32 pm

Hi All
I am just finishing running in my M240i coupe and having come from an M4 Convertible competition pack I am really pleased with it in almost all areas except that it is so quiet. Has anybody upgraded the exhaust? It seems that the full Ackropovic system (incl downipe , is that worth getting??) is about £3200 plus VAT and possibly fitting on top. I have the manual and BMW say they are not doing an MPE for the manual. Someone else mentioned Remus
I am confused. I don't want drone or lots of noise in comfort but I would love it to really "sing" in sport/sport plus. Any thoughts please?

Can not offer much, but wish to follow this thread with interest. I too would like to know future options.

How did you find the 'step down' from the M4?

I'm pretty sure the BCS Exhaust has a valve in it, much like Ferraris, so you wont get the drone at low RPM but you still get the noise at higher revs, also they are a hell of a lot cheaper than a remus, only problem, is I'm not sure if they do one for the 240i, know the M135i and M140i they do, but might be worth looking into :)

Hi,

Just joined as have just picked up a M240i '17 plate and fitted the full BMW Performance exhaust with carbon tips...honestly I took out a '17 plate M3 (non comp) and then purchased this and this exhaust sounds amazing on co/comfort it is barely noticeable but its a monster full throttle and get a lovely back gurgle and pop on run down.

Many thanks

I'd highly recommend the Remus non-res cat back mate. Sounds superb!
I've made mine sound worse now that I've been de-catted, but the sound from the Remus non-res alone is absolutely gorgeous...and don't de-cat it, I've learned the hard way.

Fairplay - not many folks fess up to a mod they’ve done that’s then not landed well.

Decats - in combo aftermarket systems - can ruin a car’s sound adding too much tinny/raspy tones.

I had the Akrapovic on my M140 with the std. Cat and it sounded rather special, as you would expect for the price.. I only had videos from the net to compare (not the ideal) but from what I could hear the Akra seems to add a tone that sets it apart fromt he other in my opinion.. The Remus came a good second though.. No drone at all with valve closed..

As to value... The Akra is very expensive compared to the others so i wouldn't call it good value compared to cheaper options but if you can justify the cost to yourself, then I'm sure you won't be disappointed...

Godzilla on the forum has the Akra exhaust and downpipe so perhaps he could chime in or you could send him a PM.. You never know if you are close by to him you may be able to meet up?
