Post by mountaincourse » Sun Dec 14, 2014 8:54 am

Hi all,

Anyone got any plans to go to the Nurburgring in 2015? I am starting to look at options... Never been before and something I have wanted to do for years so it's time to make it happen! friend of mine goes several times a year in his Nissan GTR may be going with him so will post up dates and details if anyone wants to come along perhaps we can convoy up I live in Oxfordshire.

Cheers,

Possibly, I've not been for a few years but went every year for the ten years or so before that, having a little one and work demands stopped play. It's an amazing place, nowhere like it :D we used to go as a very large group and usually split our time across track time, mountain biking and sight seeing, all three were brilliant, it just an ace and interesting region. Different years we also tagged on track days at Spa, along with time spent chilling in Spa itself, which funnily enough does have a very good spa and large "no trolleys" section which was always pleasant at the weekends. Pick a European city on the way home for a day and night out and the trip will be complete. Bruge, Ghent etc :)

Oh, and if you like rock festivals then Rock AM Ring is outstanding, although we always booked accommodation so didn't have to slum it :)

I normally go 3 times a year but might do Spa and UK TDs next year.

OP, it is important that you understand the implications and risks associated with driving a UK car on a TF day if that's your plan.

I'll be going next year. Not been for a few years so quite fancy another trip there.

I'm looking at going between March and May. I would go on my motorbike but not sure how I would cope carrying clothes etc. how did you get on doing it on your bike DrDave ?

I'll be going with a couple of friends early April. Did Spa/Belgium last year with a day at the 'ring. Gonna do a long stint at the ring with a night in Bruges on the way.

Hasn't the ring been/going to be sold? A friend who goes several times a year said it is all up in the air what is going to happen with it.

It's a real shame a few years ago it was awesome then they went and put up all that fairground and restraunt b*llocks completely ruining it lost a shed load of money and took business away from the very good local businesses.

I was over staying at bullingen in Belgium on a bike tour over May bank holiday and Sunday was free so was either run out to spa to watch cars go round or run to the ring , left luggage at hotel , did it on a multistrada 1200 but tyres were melting and sliding half way round forgot to let pressures down a bit , got overtaken by a 1m which 2 corners later was in the barrier with 2 other beemers think he was a Brit as well , scary place on a bike on a bank holiday but looks much safer in the evenings

It depends where you travel from and what you want to do.

When we went last time we traveled from Liverpool to Hull (half tank fuel £30)
Then got the ferry to Zebrugger (£100 per car)
We then drove straight to the Nurburgring (Topped up the car, full tank £60)
We stayed at the following hotel, http://www.am-tiergarten.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Its a fantastic little hotel which backs onto the ring, full of petrol heads, decent rooms and about a 2 minute drive to the entrance of the ring. There is a resaurant and bar there which was fantastic. (around £65 per night)
I done 4 laps of the ring (£80) + Another tank of fuel (£60)
We then drove to Belgium (Spa) I think another tank of fuel (£60)
We stayed in a hotel called The Raddison Blu and i think it was around £75 per night.
If your planning on doing Spa as a trackday you can get this for around £300 if you book in advance as we did. Do try and get on it as its a fantastic race track. i used another tank of fuel on this track day (£60)
Then the drive home i think i filled up once again (£60)

Food & Drink is around the same price as the UK but i found fuel to be slightly more expensive. I hope the above is of some help to you as a rough cost to what you would end up spending for a trip there.

Yes, it's under new ownership - everything is going to be up in the air until early 2015 but I'm told all will be clear early next year.

You can understand the thinking behind "commercialising" these sort of places to make more cash etc as it must be hugely expensive to run and maintain - I don't know the ins and outs of why it was sold but you can guess, but I feel for the local businesses that have spent years building their establishments to then be washed aside. I also hate it when owners change what has been such a special place but sometimes change is required to keep the show going I guess...

Thats why im just waiting until the new year as currently i cant find any dates for next year. Hopefully early Jan they will release the schedule for the year with the available public days so i can get planning the trip. It is a special place though and they wouldnt alter the track so the only thing i can see changing is the cost to go around.
