I need to get my front number plate off and I think it's been fitted with those hard to remove snap cap covers for the screws. Try as I might I've not been able to remove the cap, anyone have a simple solution?
The Halfords one's are the cheap fold in half and click.
I found the push on orginals on eBay but couldn't find blue one's, in the end I went my dealers and they kindly gave them to me free of charge.
This morning I took off my plates and removing the caps was the hardest part. In the end I used a small flat head screwdriver which worked a proper treat. Found a plastic bracket on eBay which has umpteen holes in it to screw the bracket to the original holes. The bracket then opens up allowing you to clip your plate into it. Very nice bit of kit. Seems sturdy enough and no need to bore any more holes or put double sided tape on.
Number plate fixing tape. No screws, no caps. Only if your fixing new plates though with no pre drilled holes. And if you want to make sure they are secure enough also use some silicone sealant/adhesive.
The bmw f30 I owned before this car had quite a pronounced curve on the front plate and any tape I used eventually worked slack. They never actually fell off but I think it would only have been a matter of time. The solution I found was to use Velcro with the sticky backing. Worked for me.
