Code 0029F3 Electrical Fault Fuel Pressure Sensor

Post by Sonic1506 » Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:45 pm

Hi,

2010 BMW 1 Series 116i LCI (2.0) M Sport E87

Took my car out the other day after not driving her for 3 days. After a 5 minute drive, the EML came on and she started to misfire. After restarting the car, the problem was still there. Came back home and had a few different codes. Cleared them all, went for a short drive, came back, scanned again and only had this code left:

Any ideas what it could be and how expensive it's going to cost to fix?

She drives okay, if I accelerate between 1-2k RPM I can feel the car hesitating and feels like it's misfiring.

Thanks for any help!

Just to add, went for a drive to get petrol and then came back, probably 5 minutes worth of driving. By the time I got home, she was misfiring pretty badly and started to sound like a Subaru Impreza!

Scanned the codes and got these back:

Did a clear and then got these:

Started the car and then did another scan/clear and was only left with this one:

Any ideas? Is the fault still with one of the fuel pressure sensors? Or could it be an injector issue that's then causing knock on effects?

2DED doesn't concern me as much as looking online it's nothing to be worried about. The others ones, do however concern me.

Thanks for any help.

Your low rail pressure sensor is faulty. You may also have a faulty coil/plug or injector.

Thanks for your reply. So you think there's two issues, rather than just the one? Why would the codes for the rest delete and not come up after 5 min of driving, but the fuel pressure sensor one stays? I'm going to get booked into a garage in the new year.

I'd be starting with the fuel pressure sensor too. Easy DIY.

As above, though make sure you cover any fuel rail connections with a rag when undoing, and maybe worth wearing goggles too. High pressure fuel in your eyes is not fun!

Just make sure you disconnect the battery prior to starting the job also give it 15 mins after disconnecting the battery to allow the fuel pressure to dissipate.... modern Diesel's fuel pressure is very high.

Is this not the high pressure sensor? Looking online the low pressure is near the starter motor?

@AP1, the car is booked into a garage today as I don't have the time to do it myself. One garage said they don't want to touch it and another two said they can. The one that said they don't want to touch it said to go to BMW and ask if there's an enhancement available but I'm not aware of any. Made a call to BMW anyway and asked, currently awaiting a call back.

It's that sensor just like Marco and AP1 said. Should be done by the weekend hopefully. BMW also got back to me and said there's 3 QE's available for my car:

- Brake Vacuum Software/Diagnostics.
- Coil packs.
- Power cable.

So it's worth a call to BMW generally to see if there's any QE's/Recalls.

So, got the car back and here are the things changed:

- Fuel Pressure Sensor.
- MAP Sensor.
- Cylinder 2 Coil Pack (It was only £30 and I need the car for my daily commute so I'll take the £30 loss here).

Fuel Pressure Sensor was changed but then other codes started to come up, so the sensors were also changed to see if they cured the problem which they did. All in all, it's cheaper than I was expecting. Now I need to sort out two days from work so I can take the car to BMW for the recall/QE's.

Hi Sonic1506

Could you please let me have an idea of the cost to change the low pressure fuel sensor and the map thermostat sensor? I have the same troubles you have described. Where abouts did you get yours done please?

£300 for the parts (2 sensors and the coil pack), labour and diagnostic charge.

3D Motors in Harrow did it.

Barons BMW Watford then did the recall/QE's.
