DPF Issue 00452A??

Post by ttassie15 » Mon Apr 16, 2018 6:28 pm

Hi guys,
Run a diagnostic on Carly app and get fault code 00452a, which from what I’ve read means the dpf is on deaths door? Is this actually the case and it needs replacing or can I get it cleaned out? The car doesn’t seem to regen because of the issue on the dpf (madness). It’s on 56g ash and 49g soot. Tried constantly to clear the fault whilst driving along but with no luck. Don’t really want to dpf delete due to resale and mot issues.
Cheers

Remove it and backflush to remove the incombustible ash?

Is removing the dpf easy enough, there’s a garage in Essex that offer a cleaning service so basically the same thing? And unsure whether or not that’ll sort the fault code?

If it's definitely knackered due to being full of ash (and not just exhaust soot), I'd remove it and have a go with a low powered jetwash or a hose. It's got to come off anyway if it needs replacing, what have you got to lose?

Soot is black; ash tends to be much lighter in colour (beige/orange colour). I'd wash it out until the water runs clear, dry it thoroughly and refit.

Yeah, piece of p*ss.

I'd probably want (at least) a new seal + nut and bolt to go on the screw clamp though, they tend to rust with the heat.

There is no point and it's a waste of time cleaning the dpf

I've proven that a bmw dpf will last 350,000 miles

If the dpf is blocking up its due to a problem on the engine or with the car

You do not need to change the dpf every unless it melted

Even if it's fully blocked I've been able to regen the dpf after fixing the problems that are giving the ecu the wrong info

Took the car for another long drive on the motorway today with the new turbos fitted. Managed to get a regen and down to 5g of soot. Fault code is still there though?

About 54g, so is that about half full? Think Carly says about 100g is when it’s due to be replaced, if that’s anything to go off

I've never needed to replace a dpf as I've proven these to last over 350,000 miles

Unless it's melted by someone driving down the motorway at 4,000rpm in a lower gear for 1hour which we saw the other day

Had the dpf professionally cleaned by quite a well known garage, and Carly is still reading a fault code on it, and the soot and ash levels are exactly the same as before the clean?
Are there any sensors that could’ve failed? Or have I been taken for a ride?
