Chicken or Egg/Wax before or after Sealant?

Post by Dusted » Fri Jun 23, 2017 2:28 pm

Afternoon all,

Quick question please; I have a black BMW and have the Dodo Juice Hybrid Black Widow ready to go on.

However, I sealed my car with Carbon Collective Oracle and simply wondered if I needed to apply the Black Widow after or it should have gone on prior to the Oracle sealant?

Sealant goes on bare paintwork. Sealant is a bit like a very thin lacquer / varnish, needs to be applied to a clean, wax free surface to bond.

Once dried, you can wax over the top if you want. Wax is a much softer material, a bit like a grease.

No such thing as a daft question, everyday is a school day for me.

Make sure you don't over apply the sealant, less is definitely more. Trying to put a lot on will end in tears! Two thin coats are way better than one generous one.

Yup. That was me I think.

Learnt my lesson last night doing that. I woke up this morning with residue swirls on the paintwork. I did speak to the guys at Carbon Collective and they said it should be a simple case of applying a further thin coat and buff off after 10 seconds or so. I finished the sealant at 10.00pm so the light was pretty poor!

1st timer so I have learnt my lesson now!
