Interesting.. My renewal quote came through from Chris Knott and was 25% HIGHER than last year. Where as other places through comparison sites came through at around 10-15% LESS...

I couldn't even get a quote....... Apparently you need to own an M2 for a year before you can get insured. Not much good when I'm buying it brand new

That's right, yes. It's in our access criteria in one of our earliest posts - you need 12 months' experience of a similar performance car before insurers will allow us to quote you under the scheme - viewtopic.php?f=51&t=38119

No - they were very specific on the phone. Despite me owning a 130i for 5 years, I had to own the M2 for a year before they would quote me. Not a similar car - the M2

Catch 22 isn't it. If all insurers took that attitude then how could you get insurance to then build up 12 months experience.

Could you not just give the best price to start with?

And while Im here, if a 130i isnt "similar" to an M2, what vehicles do you consider are similiar?

130i - 265bhp, 0-60 in 6 seconds
M2 - 365bhp, 0-60 in 4 seconds

They're not the same at all, the M2 has 100 extra horses.

Indeed - and no-one has said they're the same.

But the question was - what is considered as similar? They're both performance rear wheel drive small BMWs

This is what I hate about insurance companies. And all companies that rely on people paying face value prices. Why should we have to challenge the price you give?

I have an idea. Sounds strange, but maybe try this. Be like TRL. Lowest price. No BS. Try that and you might have a reputation like the man I speak of above and you might have repeat customers.

Brentacre Insurance. Always lower than the year before, for the last 4 years.

First off, and I say this alot, we don't set the rates we're brokers. So, we have access to some insurers who are really keen to attract club business and will help us to win and retain it.

We don't have access to ALL schemes/deals from ALL insurers - no-one does and companies like Directline for example don't even operate through brokers.

Therefore, if you find a price that's better than that offered by our scheme let us know and we'll see if we can encourage the insurers to reduce their rate and keep you. That's our job - to negotiate the best deal. We don't inherently know what that best deal is with the insurer you've found so you need to tell us what their quote for you is.

We won't always be able to get there because there are parameters but we'll try for you. 1000's of car club members and enthusiasts use this method to get the best deal - we have about an 80% client retention rate.

I called up today and spoke to someone that had zero interest in moving anything around that and basically said that's it. Ended up offering 'free legal cover', but ultimately didn't even attempt to review the policy and request a new price from the underwriter, etc.. Pretty poor service overall.

Looks like I'll be taking my business elsewhere this year, even though I was totally willing to renew with yourselves based on my experience last year.

If you'd like to discuss it further, feel free to get in touch.

Hi, I'm not familiar with your case but it sounds like our hands were tied on this occasion. Of course, if we can improve on your renewal it's in our interests to do so and we don't turn business away on a whim. There must have been an underwriting reason we couldn't respond this time.

Thank you for your kind words about your experience over the policy year though.

If you'd like me to look into the specifics please PM me your real name and postcode and I'll investigate why we couldn't help further.

best,
Nick

Id personally say youd struggle to get more similar to an M2 than a 130i or 135i, the M2 weighs about 150 odd KG more too.

As Barney has said, what is a similar car, I dont think its an unreasonable question for the owners forum .........
