Understeer solutions? F21 135i

Post by nigelkr1 » Wed Aug 23, 2017 1:35 pm

My 2013 135i came with new Bridgestone 050 runflats. They're ridiculously noisy on coarse surfaces and it understeers so relentlessly that roundabouts aren't fun.

I've seen the idea of fitting 225's on the rear, but what I'm thinking of is putting Michelin PSS on the front and Goodyear Asymmetric 3's on the rear. I'm thinking they'll end up with a similar actual contact area.

I know this mix n match is politically incorrect, but has anyone tried it?

Ditch RFTs and fit either GY ASY3 or MPSS 225/245 F&R

Set here FS

Okay I have ordered a set of the Goodyears. Just hope the front end bites better.

You need the longer front wishbones from a BMW M4 to get any kind of front grip, the stock chassis has so little negative camber it just understeers wildly.

As MP said...or SuperPro camber bushes to dial in the -ve camber of your choice. That said, all road cars are designed to understeer as it is more controllable than oversteer.

Does the Superpro bushes increase track and lower the front, same as the M4 LCA's?

Sooty

As you retain F2x LCA's the adjustable bushes will increase track and camber. I doubt adjustable camber bushes drop the nose in same way m4 LCAs do.

Bushes give circa extra 0.5 neg camber whereas LCA add 1-1.2 neg camber

When I retrofitted m4 TS to compliment the m4 LCAs the nose came back up again.

Thanks BP

The wheels I'm thinking of changing to are aggressive (8.5" ET38) hence wanting to know about the increase track (which may catch arches/bumper) which I may need a re-think and compromise somewhere :(

Thanks everyone I'll look into the Superpro bushes first I think :)

PS what are 'LS' ? LCA is lower control arm I assume.

TS are Tension Struts (or brake reaction arms) - the longer curly wishbones.

They look interesting to me as the M4 LCA probably gives too much -ve camber for normal driving.

By the way, I assume we are talking about Superpro camber bolts as opposed to bushes and, looking on OEMBMW, it seems that we need 10mm bolts which seem quite small. Is that correct?

Pretty sure they're M12 bolts, and 10.9 grade.
