E87 9.5" rear

Post by CraigG » Mon Oct 16, 2017 3:15 pm

looking for a set of new wheels to replace the M208's something that will fill the arches. its a Pre-LCI (not sure if that makes a different on the 1er).

would a 9.5" ET45 rear wheel fit? ive seen suggestion that a 9" ET44 will work, so whats a cheeky 5mm between friends? :O

i would be looking at running a 255/35/18 tyre.

They should sort-of fit. Worst case would involve a light roll, or dropping to a 245/35 rear.

That’s the spec of my Zito 935’s...
Very tight on the rear with 255 rubber and needed a light roll to stop it rubbing on all but the smoothest roads

trying to decide between these two:

Avant Garde M359, 8.5x18 ET35/9.5x18 ET45
Image

or

BBS CH, 8x18 ET35/9x18 ET38
Image

obviously the fronts will be pretty pokey on the 359's, with the CH's being a teeny bit more accommodating

ideally i don't want an 8.5 in the front as i am looking at 225 tyres as opposed to 235, so am leaning more towards the CH's

I have plenty of time to work it out, will be fitting my winters soon, so wont actually have to make a decision until spring :P

VMR v710 8.5 ET45 and 9.5 ET50 are (IMO) a better fit and 225/255 tyres would work well.

However, saying that I currently have 245 on the rear that are a little more stretched than I’d like but still look ok.

is there any difference in arch gap between an E82 and an E87?

I know on the E9x platform, the PreLCI E91 had more clearance than the E92 and the LCI cars. are the E8x all the same, or are some better than others?

ideally i dont want to be running a 225 on an 8.5" rim, its too stretched for my liking :(

E82/E88 have wider rear track, 20mm iirc.

A 255 rear tyre isn't going to like ET38, so I think that rules the BBS out personally. Rub-a-dub-dub.

Yes, they'll fit fine. I ran them on my E87 with a 215/40/18 (slight stretch) and managed to tuck them easily under my arches on air ride. No rubbing what so ever.

i wouldnt say 215 on a 9.5 is a "slight" stretch. i want some meat out back, not into this scene of having no tyres. car is meant to be driven!

215/40 on a 9.5 is hardly massive stretch...

It looks like more in the image because the barrel/bead is black. The only thing silver on the Zito 935's are the face. The rest is all black.

the tread is about 1.5" inboard of where its supposed to be, the alloy isn't meant to be exposed like that, that is properly stretched.

each to their own, if you like that then crack on. for me, stance and stretch looks ridiculous

are you running spacers on the rear? or is that an out the box 9.5" wheel with ET45?

It's not properly stretched. As I said previously, it only looks like there is more stretch because the barrel is black.

Same tyre brand, specs, same width wheel:

There's not much stretch on that wheel but if you think so, then good on you mate   .

Same width wheel, different tyre brand, same specs:

If you think a 215/40/18 on a 9.5" is properly stretched, then stay away from the show scene. You'll have an aneurysm.

To answer your question, no spacers.

to me, that is properly stretched.

as i said, each to their own.

appreciate you getting back to me with the spacer status, i don't think they will work for me with a proper tyre on there though :(

To you it's "properly stretched", but don't go on like it's a fact when it isn't "properly stretched" at all.

You can go for bigger tyres. I didn't rub at all with a full car.

Follow the link in my sig to my build thread. Got pics of 9.5 et45 with NS2-R 255/35 in there if you want to gauge how close they are (E82 though).
