Another will it fit thread Apex EC-7

Post by miked5 » Mon Jan 22, 2018 10:26 am

Hi guys,

I'm just about to order a set of Apex EC-7's from CA Automotive. Just thought I'd double check with everyone to make sure they will fit with no rubbing issues.

Front - 18 8.5" ET45 with 225/40 tyre
Rear - 18 9.5" ET58 with 255/35 tyre

I think the rears should be ok because of the high offset but fronts could be tight.

I’m not 100% Mike but am thinking the rears might foul on the inside rather than the arch???

Fronts will be the same as Twenny and will fit although “tighter than a camels c**t in a sandstorm”

Ahh s**t! I thought I'd finally found something in 1-series fitment.

CA Automotive have spoke with Apex they say it will definitely fit. Hmm

Might have to message twenny see if his fronts rub, that's one thing I don't want.

They should fit with the right tyre, on stock suspension at least. Lots of US people on 1addicts run them.

Prob my favourite wheel for the 1er, even over the usual BBS/OZ candidates. How much are CA asking for them?

That's good news, I also saw on 1addicts but wasn't sure what suspension people were running. Yeah it was between them and the Arc-8 but EC-7's have just edged it. Just north of 1.3k including delivery, I can't find them cheaper anywhere else and CA said they'd match if I could.

Now the question is would the fronts still fit with M3 LCA's? Would I need to run neg camber to get the tyres away front rubbing on the arch?

I have the same issue! About to pull the trigger on arc-8's think they need a 3mm spacer on the front to stop them fouling but the backs are fine, there's a post on here with a pre-fl m135i with the EC-7's on

M3 LCAs definitely decrease clearance against the arch edge. I had some rubbing with stock wheels/225 fronts and 5mm spacers, so it's likely you'll need camber plates/coilovers with the EC-7s & M3 LCA.

Thanks for that, I'll look at getting camber plates when I get the M3 LCA's 👍

Fronts will be tight for sure but should be ok and fit perfect against the outside arch -

Ok the rears. Very strange offset that as the fronts are flush but the rears sit recessed inside the arch but I guess with a 10mm spacer that would sort it all out. ET48 would be spot on.

Mine are 9.5J ET50 and again flush and perfect.

Holy sh*t them fronts are close to the strut lol

They haven't caused any issues though? I guess there's no room for a small spacer on the front to increase the distance from the strut?

I will see what the rears look like then maybe space them a touch.

Thanks for your reply Twenny

No no issues.

Yeah you could maybe get away with a 3mm spacer but it won’t be hub centric so I’m not sure I’d be happy with that on our already short spigot rings.

Your call though bro.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, those pics are really helpful! I’m looking into apex arc 8 / ec 7 for my 130i e87.

What tyres size are you running up front?
Do you suffer from any rubbing?

I’m currently on m sport shocks with eibach pro springs, I plan to fit m3 arms in the future, I don’t really want to run spacers and I’m slowly leaning towards a 8” front wheel to avoid running but unfortunately apex don’t make 18x8 so it means finding another wheel I like Image

Hello mate, yes they are Michelin Pilot super sports 225/40/18.

I’m on M sport suspension with M3 LCA’s, front offset is 8.5J ET45. I can’t say for 100%, but if I lowered mine 30mm on eibachs pros I’d rub.

Yeah 8J might be better. My 8.5J ET45 against for example 8J ET39 will have exactly the same poke, but will be 12mm further away from the strut.

I’d say you’d be safe with 8J and ET 45-51

I have 225/40 18 mps4 on my pre lci 208m wheels atm, I was hoping to run a 235 on the 8.5” but I really don’t think it’s going to work. Your wheels are he exact spec or the apex wheels, 18x8.5 et45, apparently 1 series specific but I really believe that a 8” front would be far better for fitment on a 1er, Shame, looks like I’m going to have to find another wheel lol, I think I’ll fit m3 lca first and go from there.

I don’t think I’ll try to match the poke of an 8.5” et45 with an 8” as I’ll only run into the same issues when running m3 arms by rubbing the outter arch, possible a 45 I’ll have to take measurements and work it out when the arms are on.

235 on the front would feel terrible in my opinion. And would almost certainly rub on the front arch liner when on full lock.

If they are same spec and tyre widths as mine then you may possibly need a little arch roll but would be 100% worth it for the wheels you actually want rather than settle for what fits.
