One popular recurring topic appears to be:

what size wheels and/or tyres can I put on my 1er?
The easy answer is stick to the OEM specs which can be found .

However, going outside these specs, especially with 19" wheels can involve a little trial and error so I would like to invite members to share their experiences and show us your aftermarket wheels and/or tyres together with your details as set out in the following example.

Don't be shy now!!! Your 1er can be forever immortalized
as a benchmark example on BabyBMW.net but please follow the format for everyone's benefit

Finally, please keep this thread free of discussion, if you would like to ask a question, please post .

Manufacturer: Original BMW Style 208M with Goodyear NCT

Front: 18 x 7.5J ET:47 with 205 45 18 Goodyear NCT
Rear: 18 x 8J ET:49 with 225 40 18 Goodyear NCT

Comments: This is stock standard ///M sport spec so it works with no issues (apart from the usual RFT handling characteristics). However, for aftermarket upgrades tell us about any rubbing issues, whether guards need to be rolled, ride comfort, handling or any other relevant details you would like to share.

Photo: Just one please but feel free to post links to more.

Daily setup:

Manufacturer: OZ Racing Ultraleggera with Toyo T1R

Front: 17 x 8J ET:40 with 225 45 17 Toyo T1R
Rear: 17 x 8J ET:40 with 225 45 17 Toyo T1R

Comments: This setup works great with the car - nice ride comfort and handling.

Track days:

Manufacturer: M-replica with Bridgestone RE-540 (R-tires)

Front: 17 x 8J ET:38 with 235 40 17 Bridgestone RE-540
Rear: 17 x 8J ET:38 with 235 40 17 Bridgestone RE-540

Comments: No rubbing with a margain. Wounderful grip and handling on the track - way better than the standard setup making track-day a whole lot more fun  Recommended!

Manufacturer: AC Schnizter Type IV with Continental ContiSportContact2

Front: 19 x 8.5J ET:43 with 225/35/19 ContiSportContact2
Rear: 19 x 8.5J ET:43 with 235/35/19 ContiSportContact2

Comments: AC Schnizter are now recommending
225/35/R19 all around. However I have had this combination on the car for 3 weeks now and the car has had no problem with wheel arch rubbing on NZ back country roads at up to 210 km/hr (for my Aussie friends across the ditch, this is a benefit of being allowed radar detectors :D - although that said I was pinged at 130 km/h last week for overtaking an unmarked police car - a Hyundai Sonata of all things - but them's the breaks  ).

Ride comfort comparable to 17" Euforia RFT's on stock BMW wheels.

Manufacturer: BBS for BMW AG

Front / Rear: 8J x 19 ET: 47 with 235 / 40 / 19 Dunlop SportMaxx

Comments: Very smooth ride compared to 16" RSC Tires, more comfortable. Car is sticky on the road, high curve speeds. No work needed to fit, works with OEM BMW Bolts. Could be 20" for my taste because they really look small.

[Mod edit: Pic downsized for easier viewing :)]

Front: 16 x 7J ET:40 with 205/55 R16 Dunlop WinterSport M3 DSST
Rear: 16 x 7J ET:40 with 205/55 R16 Dunlop WinterSport M3 DSST

Comments: This is my winter setup

Manufacturer: BBS CH

Front: 19 x 8.5J ET:35 with 235/35 Falken 452
Rear: 19 x 9.5J ET:30 with 265/30 Falken 452

Comments: well, looks good, drives much better than on the original 17" RFTs but would not recommend this wheel/tyre size combo... due to rubbing just about everywhere front and back, haha who cares though it looks good

On behalf of Roofer:-

Manufacturer: Original BMW Style 208M with Pirelli PZero Rosso

Front: 18 x 7.5J ET:47 with 225 /40 /18
Rear: 18 x 8J ET:49 with 255 /35 /18

Comments: Ride quality is transformed, turn in is crisp. I will never buy a run flat shod car again.... [after] 1000 miles on them the car is transformed, the steering is alive again... There is no 'pinching or rubbing' with 255's. If you want oversteer with 255's, you just apply more power

Manufacturer: Original BMW Style 208M with Continental Contact Sports 2 (non-RFT)

Front: 18 x 7.5J ET:49 with 225/40R18
Rear: 18 x 8J ET:49 with 245/35R18

Comments: Stock standard ///M sport spec 18" and tyres used are within rim width tolerance so no rubbing issue. Compared with Goodyear NCT 5 RFT, ride comfort up, handling up with less understeer, grip both dry and wet up, just about everything improved over RFT. Wider tyres are better rim protector too!
 Thanks 130girl, here it is!

On behalf of kompey

Manufacturer: Oz Chrono HT with Yokohama Advan Sport

Front: 18 x 8J with 215/45/18
Rear: 18 x 8J with 235/40/18

[According to , these wheels are available in ET:40 - 130girl]

Comment: with lighter wheel and the removal of run-flat the car is more soft,it has become more fluid to guide and more releasing in acceleration. they are be resolved, in part, the traction problems and the adhesion is increased remarkablly.

Manufacturer: Breyton Flame Sport with Michelin Pilot Sport II

Front: 19 x 8.5J ET:35 with 225/35-R19
Rear: 19 x 8.5J ET:35 with 225/35-R19

Comments: Exterior looks are improved a lot! Has some minor problems with rubbing at the back in case the car is heavy loaded. Perfect should be these rims in ET43.

Manufacturer: Khan alloys with Fullrun Tyres

Front: 19 235/35-R19
Rear: 19 235/35-R19

Comments: Look amazing , and because of the size they fill the entire arch ! But becasue of the design i have to watch kerbs ... but they are worth it, as they really turn heads ! No problem with rubbing, except on some of the really bumpier country roads. Hmm not too good with a car full either !

Basically 18" would be far more practical  BUT thats not why i got these 19" ones :cool2: and who cares about practical :p

Style: M6 replica wheels (polished/grey)

Front/rear: 18/8J ET:35 with Falken ZIEX ZE912 225/40/ZR18 92W

Comments: Sits in wheel arch perfectly (No sticking out or rubbing). The non-RF's are less hard than the OEM Pirelli's and handle great in both wet and dry.

firstly hello it my first post , so go easy !

heres my new wheels. 18x8.5 wearing 225x40x18 .et37

a replica of style 225m 19" seen on the new 3 series m sports. i would have gone for 8" rims , but once i saw these next to the car i couldn't resist and they were only avaliable in 8.5"

absolutely no rubbing issues. the tyres are maybe slightly stretched on the rims but doesnt look silly. i could easily get away with a wider tyre on the back. maybe the front too.

running 36psi all round as thats what the tyre fitters put them too. a slightly harder ride than the Run flats but a better feel. dont know what everyone else runs but i might try sligtly less over the next few weeks to find a good comprimise.

great forum by the way !
