JB4 / JB+

Post by Sleeper74 » Sat Feb 10, 2018 3:01 pm

Hi all

I’ve owned my M135i for coming up to 2 years now and just treated her to x4 MPSS and also now looking into a simple tuning solution

Appreciate that this may have been covered however can peeps with some knowledge of the JB tunning boxes provide a lamens overview of how they work and which one is best for a 2014 M135i?

Also are these safe i.e. engine not at risk of being kernackered and also the auto gearbox can take the addition torques/bhp?

Look forward to hearing your views & advice
Cheers

I’ve run a TMC for just over a year with no issues and fancy trying a JB4 so have one waiting to go on. JB + has to be the simplest option
LCI M135i AW with Coral, Auto, Media Pro, HK, Adaptive LEDs, TMC + BCS Sports cat for a bit more

I have been running a jb4 for nearly two years now it’s an amazing bit of kit and the more hardware you add the more you can adapt the maps I have the connect kit so all controlled via Bluetooth but it’s soon going to be up for sale as I am putting the car back to standard for my next toy lol

JB+ looks to be the best option for the 40+ aged family man that wants no hastle cheap horses without all the complex modding

Love the 135 but keeping it simple the key thing for me 👍

From my experience, there is big difference between jb+ and jb4 with N55 engine - power and smoother (Ewg version at least).

JB+ is a simple PnP “stage 1” box that gets you a small bump in power and will be fine on an otherwise standard car.

JB4 is a step up from every other tuning box out there as it taps into the car’s Canbus for monitor and control of certain parameters to allow JB4 to run more boost safely.

Multiple maps for n55 as follows

Map 1 is additive ie similar to any other tuning box - adds boost whilst acting as a "slave" to DME boost curve

Map 2 - is like map 1 but with a higher boost cap

Adding the EWG harness takes your JB4 up a level to use absolute maps below and is much cheaper than remapping - JB4 is by far the best "bang for buck"

Map 5 is autotune and absolute map - works with DME to create more optimal boost cure - ability to autotune and control boost better than map1 or map 2 will be limited w/o EWG harness.

Map 6 - custom tuning

Map 7 - high octane/bolt ons required

Hi Guys

I have the JB4 box and you can definitely feel the additional torque/power increase.

I do notice that the gear changes with the ZF8 gearbox are a lot more apparent and jerks a bit with changes. Not overly bad. Feels like the old E60 M5 gear change, especially when in sport mode.

Does anyone else have the same "characteristics" or cure for this?

Thanks

So if I have a catless DP , BMS intake and put 93 octane (Premium fuel) I should go Map 3? (More hardware)

We have plenty of the E85 fuel here in Sweden, for a mutch lower cost, is it (50/50) (93 octane/E85) mixure or can I go with 100% E85? In what map in that case?

Sorry for my poor english

Map 3 - try it and log some data and assess if map 3 works OK with yr M140i

If all good try blending 10% e85 with 93 super unleaded and log data. Increase e85 in 10% steps and keep logging data to see how much e85 yr B58 can cope with.
