Remap slightly dissapointing

Post by eastleygt » Tue Sep 05, 2017 7:21 pm

HI Everyone,

I have a 120d E82 M Sport Coupe 2010

Recently had the car remapped by a local specialist, including DPF delete and EGR blocked up, It returned 204hp.

They said the best they got out of the car was 163 before mapping,

Am I right in thinking that I should have the 177 model? Everything is registered as a 177 on log book, insurance etc.

The company said if it had made 177 on the power run I should expect 215/220 with the remap and DPF delete,

Can anyone shed some light on this? Could there be an air leak, issue to start with?

I don't have any fault codes on,

Thanks

Ryan

Yes, yours is a 177 N47 engine.

41bhp increase is good, nothing to be disappointed with there. It's the delta you need to focus on.

'Peak flywheel BHP' figures are purely for w4nkers down the pub, dyno's measure torque at the wheels - so any flywheel figure is a guess at best. What fudge factor were they using? I like about 15%.

What size rear tyres are you running?

Thank you,

I'm not disappointed in the increase, just slightly disappointed that it wasn't 177 to start with. Someone mentioned I could have a boost leak, so I'm going to look at that next.

I'm unsure, I will dig out the graph and the details this evening and have a look.

Standard wheels and tyres on for the remap, running 245/40/18's at the moment but having 235/40/18's fitted tomorrow to stop the rubbing

I thought they looked like tractor tyres in your pic.

245/40/18 are about 4% too big, so that equates to a 7bhp drop at the wheels, for starters.

Why did you remove the dpf ?
it's now illegal to use on the road

Hopefully the new tyres being fitted in the morning will look better for a start

I'm being professional about it your not

If you want to know how much fun I am at parties turn up too one
Or google the free dynos days I've set up last minute out of my own pocket to help people who have travelled from Europe or from up north
when big car shows have cancelled the day before like the Uxbrige show did a few years ago and only told people the night before the show

Jason is pretty much the oracle of remapping BMWs, if you want answers, he's the guy you want to talk to and not upset with such comments!

It's not Bhp is just at top end and the more Bhp you have the higher the top end speed will be
Torque through the rev range is what will make the car go and how quick it will get there

Post your dyno graph and I can comment on it
Also who did the remap and what was the cost
Your car might have problems with it to start with which they did not investigate
